Dear Secretary Hultqvist,

It's come to my understanding the current administration hasn't reached out to rebuild relations with Sweden, my objective of this email to hopefully rekick start relations between our two nations. I understand our two nations haven't seen eye to eye on previous topics which is quite understandable however, our administration views are not the same as the previous administration. We know the Swedish Administration has a strong presence within the region, so we'd like to kick of relations rebuilding a bit different.

We know trade talks can be a bit boring, so the Australian Administration would like to kick start an international task force for a patrol within the Pacific Sea and surrounding areas. We are hoping that the Swedish Administration would agree to attaching a few vessels to such task force with a change of command every 6 months. We have plans on asking the British if they wish to join as we are currently in a joint operation within the Indian Ocean to protect the shipping lanes and provide assistance to those ships in need when needed. We'd also like to extend an invite to the Swedish Navy to take part in such operation as well, if you wish to do so.

We'd also like to initiate in trade however this can be done different communications if needed with the nescessary people, I look forward to hearing a reply from yourself and look forward to working with the Swedish Royal Navy.

Thanks
Ian McLachlan

Dear Minister McLachlan,

I do agree that we too have neglected the relationship between Sweden and Australia, a void that almost certainly needs filling. It's no secret that we have had a rocky past when it comes to bilateral relations and the Antarctic political boiling pot soon overflowed when it came to a head-to-head between our great nations but with that aside, we remain respectful and we cherish the projection of pride and honour your nation holds dear to it's heart.

It would be a great pleasure for the Swedish Royal Navy to deploy to the Pacific Ocean to assist in ongoing operations and patrols in the region and we remain in a state of readiness to deploy at a moments notice once the details are ironed out.

Do you intend for the Swedish Royal Navy to assist in two separate operations? One of which being a patrol and the second being the protection of shipping lanes or are these one in the same? When do you foresee this/these operations taking place and what vessels do you require of the Swedish Royal Navy to ensure we effectively support your ongoing efforts in the region?

I look forward to your response.

Regards,
Peter Hultqvist

Dear Secretary Hultqvist,

Thank you for your prompt reply, it's great to see that our two countries can once again be on peaceful paths. It's down to the Royal Swedish Navy if they wish to take part in two separate operations. The first operation would be a joint operation with the Royal Australian Navy along with the Royal Navy in the Indian Ocean protecting shipping lanes, assisting vessels in need. This would also give an excellent opportunity for our forces to combine operations on each other vessels.

We'd also like the Royal Swedish Navy to take part in a separate operation within the Pacific Ocean for patrol purposes, this is still in the planning stages and we are hoping we can get the Royal Navy on this patrol as well. For the purpose of the patrol within the Pacific Ocean we will be granting friendly forces to dock into Australian Ports for refueling and restocking purposes. I look forward to a reply from yourself in the near future.

Thanks

Dear Minister McLachlan,

We certainly have the capacity to partake in both operations and I'd be keen to jump at the opportunity should it arrive in the scope you project it in. Initially, following a brief consultation with the powers that be within the Swedish Royal Navy we have concluded that we would be happy to deploy in order to assist with your shipping lane protection operation in the Indian Ocean. This is an area we believe we could be immediately beneficial and, as you rightly say, give our personnel the opportunity to experience foreign vessels, strategy and operations.

On this matter, does this operation have a name? What assets are currently deployed by the Australian and British Armed Forces? What would be required in terms of assets by the Swedish Royal Navy? Do you have any limitations to activities in the Indian Ocean (eg. are ships actively being stopped and boarded?)? Would we be meeting your deployed vessels at sea or in port?

In addition, we have not ruled out the possibility of being involved in the Pacific Ocean patrol and we could see ourselves benefitting equally from this operation as well. We will allow you to continue negotiations with the Royal Navy for now and await their response to allow us to draw up an appropriate deployment strategy for this operation.

Regards,
Peter Hultqvist

Dear Secretary Hultqvist,

The current operation is Operation Gateway, we currently have no limitations to what happens on the operation and a joint cooperation by the Royal Australian will be used at any time it is needed. The Royal Navy are currently deploying a Type 23 Frigate to the area, we are acquired a deal with the British to use Deigo Garcia as a refuelling area as and when it is needed. It is down to the Swedish Royal Navy on what they wish to deploy, anything is much appreciated. I have listed below the current deployment from the Royal Australian Navy (RAN):

[3] ORDER OF BATTLE
[1] Adelaide Class, HMAS Adelaide (FFG 01)
[1] Rigid Inflatable Hull Boat
[221] Personnel
[2] Sikorsky SH-60R Seahawk, A Flight 725 Squadron
[12] Personnel, A Flight 725 Squadron

[1] ANZAC Class, HMAS Anzac (FFH 105)
[1] Rigid Inflatable Hull Boat
[163] Personnel
[1] Sikorsky SH-60R Seahawk, A Flight 725 Squadron
[6] Personnel, C Flight 725 Squadron

[1] Durance Class, HMAS Success (OR 304)
[237] Personnel

Dear Minister McLachlan,

I am excited to say that the Swedish Royal Navy will deploy a Brandenburg-Class Frigate, HSwMS Thuringia (F21) from the 3rd Naval Warfare Flotilla, Charlie Frigate Division. This deployment will form part of Operation Gateway rather than it's own independent operation and continue to serve under the operational command and instruction of the Royal Australian Navy for the duration of our stay - this vessel will arrive with it's full complement, support craft and helicopter to facilitate contingencies as necessary.

In order to reach Australia we must first liaise with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for their written permission to make use of refuelling facilities in Gibraltar and Diego Garcia to enable onwards travel to Australia for port. For this reason, I have carbon copied the British Ministry of Defence into this message for response. Pending a positive one, we will deploy immediately upon receipt.

Regards,
Peter Hultqvist

Dear Secretary Hultqvist,

I'm glad to see the Swedish Royal Navy to deploy to the Indian Ocean in a joint effort. I've just received word about the worrying news in Russia, what is the Swedish view on this? And what are the Swedish Administration planning on doing to stop the fighting boiling over into the rest of the European region and into the Swedish lands? If the Australian Administration can do anything to help, then please do let us know.

Thanks
