Subject: AgustaWestland Apache AH1 & Airborne Early Warning Aircraft Agreement
From: Secretary for Defence Acquisition Thomas N. Kristensen (Thomas.Kristensen@fmn.dk)
Dear Whom it may concern,

The current Defence Acquisition team has been looking at a few options to buy an attack helicopter for the use Royal Danish Airforce. From this meeting from the executives from the Acquisition department we have come to the decision to see if the following could happen;

- Great Britain and Northern Ireland sell a total of 15 units of the AgustaWestland Apache AH1 to the Kingdom of Denmark
- Great Britain and Northern Ireland provide the Royal Danish Air Force with training on both operating the aircraft and maintenance of the aircraft
- Great Britain and Northern Ireland provide a total of 2 years maintenance deal for the 15 units until the engineers units are trained to a satisfactory level

The Defence Acquisition would also like to propose a joint task force and agreement with the British Royal Air Force, currently the Danish Air Force doesn't have any Early Warning Aircraft so we'd like to propose a deal that we could both mutually agree on that would allow the Royal Danish Air Force to be able to count on the British Royal Air Force AEWC Aircraft. We'd also like to propose a joint air policing force for both the British Region and Scandinavian region specifically Danish Air Space and Internal Air Space around our two countries. I believe this would be beneficial for both of us due to the rising concerns both in the Middle East/Eastern Mediterranean regions and the current civil war that has happened in Russia. If willing, I'll be happy to attend a meeting to discuss both issues if needed. I look forward to a reply and hopefully working with the British Ministry of Defence closer for the better of the European Region.

Thanks,
Thomas N. Kristensen

With the email being sent, the Secretary grabbed a small suitcase and prepped his paperwork & clothes for a few nights stay in the United Kingdom. Once all ready the Secretary along with an aide decided to board a commercial flight towards London Heathrow (LHR) where he would then take a private car towards the Ministry of Defence which the Embassy arranged prior to their arrival.

The Secretary of Defence Acquisition and their aide landed safely onboard their commercial flight at London Heathrow, the Danish Embassy was notified prior to the departure and sent a private car to meet the two.

The secretary and the aide headed towards customs and border control, showing them the passports and the reason why they were visiting the United Kingdom. Once through customs and board control, the two headed to the waiting car which then proceeded to take them to the meeting location at the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Defence was alerted of the arrival of the Danish delegations and was told to expect them shortly.

When arrived at the meeting location, the Secretary would move into the reception area of the ministry of defence and alerted the receptionist of who they are there to see and waited to be escorted into the meeting.

Having spent the previous two days preparing for the visit, Secretary J. Green was confident in the United Kingdoms ability to deliver much of what was been asked of the Danish Government. With a compilation of data from the costs, specifications and requirements of the Apache supplied by the UK, and the considerations and availability that would be required for the Royal Air Force to participate in such a joint venture, it was thought enough information was at hand for some meaningful discussion. Now - it was just waiting for the meeting to commence. Jason's day started as his normal routine before making his way to the office, expecting his Danish Counterparts not to be far behind.

He wasn't waiting long before receiving the call that his guest, or guests, had arrived. Initially unaware of any aides or other representatives that may had been attending. He himself had his own assistance in his office who was to take any notes to allow more time for the Secretary to converse with less administration. Upon arriving at reception, the Danish Secretary was guided through a metal detector and asked to declare anything on his person. This was normal. Provided everything checked out, they would be escorted to the private conference room where Secretary Green approached and extended his hand "Good Morning" he smiled, followed by some small talk. "How was your trip?"

"Good Morning Secretary Green, the trip was pleasant. How has your morning been?" the Secretary paused extending his own hand, ensuring it was a firm shake before continuing "Thank you for seeing me on such short notice, hopefully, this meeting can be a stepping stone to such a great relationship between the Danish and the British!" the Secretary continued to walk into the conference room which was provided by the British.

Upon entering the conference room, the Secretary along with his aide would take a seat on one side of the table, the aide would begin pulling out pieces of paper and a pen to be able to take notes on behalf of the Danish government.

"Once again I must thank you on seeing on me on such short notice. You must be a very busy man!" the Secretary paused allowing the British to speak and to allow his aide to continue setting up for the important meeting.

"It feels like it's been a long day but the morning has gone well thus far." he responded in jest, "It's a pleasure to meet you, and no doubt the trip was more tedious for yourself than I, despite it only been a short travel time. I'm very pleased to be able to have this meeting actually, to use it as a stepping stone for furthering relations between the UK and Denmark with, based on your email, a very prosperous arrangement. From your initial correspondence I believe there are two parts to this meeting, no?

An acquisition of the AgustaWestland Apache Attach Helicopter, which whilst we have no problem participating in, I do wonder why your government are more interested in our particular variant. I'm aware the American Defence Sales do sell their equivalents. Purely out of curiosity but were there preferences to have the AgustaWestland option over the other, or..?
Anyway, I believe that as the initial topic. Then, discussions of a possible joint task force between the RAF and your own Air Force? I believe those would set the agenda for these talks and believe the acquisition of the Apache could be our first talking point if you would agree and like to start?" smiled the Secretary.

"Pleasure is all mine Secretary Green! Hopefully, these talks can be the big stepping stone for our two nations." the Secretary paused before continuing "We, looked over technical data of both the American variant and the British variant. The British variant is better suited for the needs of the Danish Armed Forces, we'd also like to keep buying considerably close if we can and support fellow European nations such as yourselves. We've got to look out for our own do we not?" the Secretary paused once again clearing his throat and taking a sip of his water from the bottle.

"We also believe that American Defence Sales is quite how do you put it kindly? Overpriced for what they are selling, I get that they need to make money but the pricing seems a bit out of this world. So hopefully we can come to some type of deal that works out for both the British and Danish people, we are looking to acquire not a large amount of Apaches but a decent amount as well as the servicing for maintenance as well as training in both operating the aircraft and the servicing of said aircraft."

There was a moment of silence, nodding in acknowledgement of what was said. As mentioned, it was just his own curiosity as to why he had asked such a question. Especially when most partner nations tend to stray towards America, or Russia for such products. "I'll be honest, I'm not sure of the price margin with American Defence Sales so I'm hoping the prices I have, are not matching or exceeding it. Naturally, it wouldn't be business if we sold them and received no profit but we are also more interested in the relationship that could grow as a result. I did get the figures prior to this meeting..." he paused, shuffling some paper around in front of him. "15 units of the AgustaWestland Apache AH1. Due to the lack of trade agreement, this would be vatable, but let me know:

AgustaWestland Apache AH1 selling price would be 50mn a unit. The net amount for fifteen would be 750 million. With VAT included, around 900 million.
We would be able to include the two year maintenance plan which would cost 300 million to cover the entire two year period which we will include support for any damages during that time.
In total, it would be a 1.2bn dollar deal.

That would see the production of fifteen Apache attach helicopters and maintenance covered. We could either see the Apaches delivered to the UK for maintenance, or... perhaps their may room for discussions with your government as to whether the UK may be able to acquire a military base of some sort in Denmark? With that, we could have engineers in your country twenty-four seven during the transition period.

Based on your other requirements for training:

We will not charge for training as we see it as a mutually beneficial arrangement and a great chance for our forces to work side by side. Can I just ask, as to avoid confusion, it is the British Army that operate Apaches. Not the Air Force. Is it your air force that will be operating these or does your army have its own air corp? Excuse my ignorance, I'm not aware of the structure of the Danish Armed Forces."

The Secretary looked to his aide who was taking down notes carefully before looking back at Secretary Green then looking to a pile of his papers before speaking "$!.2Billion seems very reasonable. Once this meeting is over, I shall get the Finance Department to wire the money! The Danish Armed Forces would be more than willing to allow a British Military base in Denmark! We are currently looking at spaces for a new air base which could be beneficial for the joint policing task force if Britain agrees to it!" the Secretary paused before continuing "The current structure of the Danish Armed Forces, doesn't allow for an Air Corps in the Army therefore the Apaches would be operated by the Air Force until further notice but we are always looking at expanding and making the armed forces better so maybe in the future there may be a Air Corps in the Army!"

"Perfect, easiest deal I've negotiated." he spoke in jest, "As soon as the funds are transferred over, we will work to get these produced. I will also ensure an agreement is written up to cover the terms of the sale including the maintenance and training aspects of it. I should be able to get this across in the next couple of days, just to formalize the process. In accordance with this, on a two-year rotational deployment we would be looking to deploy a company from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, who maintain and repair our equipment. This would be up to sixty (60) personnel and would likely rotate every six (6) months, at the commanders discretion. If you are happy with this, I will include it but I would just need to know where you would want these to be stationed in Denmark. Of course, preferably where the Apaches will be stationed. If you are satisifed with that, I'll get it written up.

What do you have in mind for the air policing agreement?"

The secretary chuckled before speaking "Yes, this was quite the easiest sale ever made. We'd like the aircraft to be stationed at Karup Air Base so the British Forces are more than welcome to be stationed there too! Ah yes, the air policing agreement! Currently, the Danish Airforce doesn't have access to an Early Warning Aircraft, and the Danish Air Force doesn't currently need one at this moment in time. We'd be looking for a joint agreement in regards to the British Early Warning Aircraft where we'd be able to use the Early Warning Aircraft with prior notice to operation(s), thus allowing a British Squadron to be stationed within Denmark where it would be protected by Danish Fighters when in the sky. We'd also be able to offer a selected amount of fighters to be stationed within Britain to allow as a Quick Reaction squadron. Of course this is all down to you or if you'd like to suggest something else?"

"I've had confirmation that construction has begun of the fifteen Apaches. I would like to propose that mid-January, we deploy our REME Company to Karup Air Base for the maintenance support to be available twenty-four seven. Once they have arrived and settled, which we could say February, perhaps a joint exercise in Denmark that would see British and Danish Apaches work together as part of the training program if that sounds of appeal?

The joint agreement certainly sounds of interest, do you have any drafts available for us to review?"

"That's great to hear, I shall make sure the REME Company is welcomed with open arms at Karup Air Base. A joint exercise between British and Danish Apaches will be welcomed, maybe we could introduce a ground element too? Too show the cooperation between both Aircraft and Troops on the ground." the secretary paused before speaking again "We were hoping we could create a draft together to get the finer details in putted, unless you have something?"

"Sorry for the delay but I think we've finally got something ready to present. Introducing a draft copy of the Joint AWACS Agreement. Naturally, we'd love your feedback and we can work on any adjustments but I feel like it's an effective starting point.

To summarize, the Royal Air Force would home, subject to operational requirements, a minimum of two E-3D Sentry Aircraft. This can be reduced at our discretion based on operation needs such as our war with Turkey. Equally, the agreement confirms that the Kingdom of Denmark would be happy for our AWACS to launch from Denmark on UK operations. In return, these could also deploy to support your own operations. Which, in turn, would be discussed between ourselves as to ensure no political allegiances would be hindered as a result. Let me know your thoughts?"

The Secretary nodded while the Secretary of Defence spoke "Not a problem Secretary!" the Secretary paused while reading over the document handed to him before speaking back up "I do believe I can agree to the document laid out in front of me, please if you do not mind. Can you send a copy to the Ministry of Defence? This shall allow the Ministry to allow the Royal Danish Air Force to make arrangements for the aircraft and personnel to be stationed much quicker" the Secretary paused smiling while signing his name on behalf of the Defence Minister "I'm so glad, we can come to some sort of arrangement regarding this and hopefully this kickstarts a new type of agreement in todays age! If there is anything I can do to get the Ministry of Defence to help regarding the situation in Turkey then do let me know, I can arrange our tactical airlifters to be placed on standby to help move troops and equipment from the United Kingdom to where it is needed!" the Secretary paused clearing his throat then taking a drink of water to allow the British Secretary to speak

With the agreement signed, a copy would be arranged with his personal secretary to send to the Danish Ministry of Defence. Whilst both the signatories would be able to keep the originals that would place the Joint AWACS Agreement into action. Provided you can handle the arrangements for access to Karup Air Base, we would be looking to deploy No. 17 RAF Squadron, C Flight, which consists of two Boeing E-3D Sentries by the middle of May. This would see them settled in and operational from the end of May for UK or Danish Operations. Is this schedule suitable for yourselves? That gives you a couple of weeks (26/03/2022). As for Turkey, thank you for the offer. Fortunately I'd like to think, for now anyway, that the air war is in our favor."

"We can definitely make the arranges for the British No. 17 Squadron to arrive shortly!" the Secretary paused pulling out his phone, sending a quick email back to the Defence Ministry to begin making preparations for the British to arrive at Karup Air Base. When the aircraft arrives it would be given a water salute by the local fire brigade as a sign of respect. "I'm glad that you guys have had such success with an air campaign, if there is anything you do need from us do let us know and we will be sure to help!"

"The Danish Armed Forces are looking at suitable replacements for Replenishment Vessel(s), Heavy Equipment Transporters and Recovery Vehicles, would the British Ministry of Defence be able to provide suitable replacement offers? We'd also like to be able to sort out the proposed Exercise you proposed regarding the Apache? I understand that the British Armed Forces are right now pre-occupied with Turkey but if you could either point me in the right direction or some information?"
