[Egypt] Request to Norway

The egyptian ambassador in Oslo would request an private audience with the norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

After receiving the message from the Egyptian government, a secure phone call was made from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Egyptian embassy. The Egyptian ambassador was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Government Quarter of Oslo where Foreign Minister Anthony Vinter was waiting to see him. The Ambassador would be allowed into the building and taken to the Minister's office.

The ambassador would enter the building after showing the corresponding ID. He would enter the office of Foreign Minister Anthony Vinter and politely greet him.

"Minister Vinter, thank you for receiving me. I feel that this meeting was long overdue. Clearly the aspirations of Norway as a global player based on soft power is something that has to be recognized, and it is my nation’s intention to foster this bilateral relationship towards a level of mutual benefit.

I hope this intention is mutual."

Anthony arose from his chair and offered to shake the ambassador's hand.
"It certainly is," he said as he offered the ambassador a seat across from his desk. Both diplomats had a glass of water placed between them as they began the private meeting.
"How exactly is it that I can help you, ambassador?" Anthony said in a friendly tone as he folded his hands on his desk and looked at his Egyptian counterpart.

"Well, to begin with we would like to dsicuss the possibility of incresing bilateral trade, as you might know, Egypt is currently the worlds leading trading nation, with a trade network spanning all continents. The norwegian market is clearly of interest to us, and in return we would also like to import quality norwegian goods.

That to begin with, afterwards we also have other types of potential agreements in mind."

"And I'm sure as you know," Anthony said as he raised his eyebrows in momentary thought, "Norway is lacking in trade... The Prime Minister has spoken with the Minister of Trade and I about this problem. It's a bit more... complicated, then I thought it was, but they've been hard at work with it. It would be an honor of ours to have Egypt be one of our first major trading partners, though. If you don't mind me asking, do you happen to know where Egypt purchased its trade vessels, or were they made domestically?" he asked.

"We would be more than happy to become a major trading partner of Norway. Even so, we could offer some of our commercial ships to transport the norwegian goods to Egypt, while your nation builds its merchant fleet.

Egypts merchan navy consists of a variety of ships, mostly of japanese and philippine origin. We would suggest you contact Tokyo on this matter, as their ships turned out to be the most convenient due to their very large capacities.

May I ask what goods Norway currently exports, or would like to export?"

"I'll be sure to let the Minister Trade know about the capabilities of Japanese merchant ships. It is well overdue that we have some," he said, before continuing on to the question from the Egyptian diplomat. "Norway's major exports are: crude oil, natural gas, refined gasoline, seafood, and raw aluminum. I'm sure that a number of these would be of interest for Egypt? And what are your primary exports?" he asked in return.

The ambassador would listen carefully and check his notes: "We would certainly find a good spot for norwegian seafood and raw aluminium within the egyptian market. Would you be willing to export them to my country? In return, we would be very interested in exporting Fruits, copper, gold and fertilizers to Norway.

In another matter, EgyptAir, our national carrier, is currently expanding its network of destinations, and has asked me to intercede with your Government to inquire about the possibility of establishing a direct route between Cairo and Oslo. Would this be something that interests your Government?"

"We would be very interested in beginning trade with Egypt. I'm not sure if there would necessarily be many flights going either between our two countries, but we have discussed trying to make Oslo Gardermoen Airport a hub for international travel throughout the Nordic Countries, Eastern Europe, and possibly the United Kingdom," he said as he contemplated the logistics of trade between Norway and Egypt.

The egyptian ambassador would listen carefully and reply:

"In that case we could maybe make use of one of our smaller aircraft, like the Boeing 737-800 on 2 or 3 weekly flights. We can adjust to demand and help connect our Cairo airport, the west-east bridge with your idea of Oslo as a nordic hub.

Which of the products we mentioned would find the norwegian doors open? We can begin shipping them in a short period, given we already trade them to other nations across the globe."
