Briefing

Operation Atlante I is the first stage of a multistage operation in New Caledonia by the French Armed Forces. Atlante I focuses on securing key territory and population centres after a breakdown in law and order, particularly around Nouméa, the official capital, which was evacuated in favour of Koumac after the burning down of a police station there.
