Zhi looked over the balcony of her office, the view never ceased to impress her, they had fought so long to get here and now their dreams were finally coming true. What had started as a relatively minor mutiny, had truly transformed into a revolution that was set to change China to its core. Even more, than it already had one.
“Madam President, Colonel Wu is here”
Zhi turned around to face her secretary, Colonel Wu had just been appointed the acting Commander of the Beijing Special Guard Unit. An ad hoc military unit that was formed to protect the President following the revolution and now to protect the Forbidden City and surrounding area from any intervention. He was also a personal friend going back to her childhood.
“Let him in,” She said as business-like as possible, once the aide had left and the Colonel walked in she approached and hugged the man excitedly “Guanyu, I missed you”. Guanyu welcomed the embrace of his President shortly before remembering just how their positions of powers had changed. “Thank you, Madam President. I missed you as well.” He replied quickly before adding, “I have come to report on the process we have made preparing the Forbidden City for the Grand Assembly of the People”
Zhi nodded shortly. “Please sit” She replied, pointing to one of the chairs prepared in her office before sitting down in the opposite one. “What do you have to report, Colonel?”
“We have managed to seal the Forbidden City perfectly, soldiers have been stationed at all access points and the Air Force is regularly flying over to enforce the no-fly zone. MSS is still checking for espionage equipment but so far nothing has been found. The delegates are all safe and resting in their assigned quarters.” Guanyu reported.
“I take it then all will be ready before the big event?” Zhi asked, looking for confirmation.
“Yes, we are confident that security will be guaranteed.”
Zhi breathed a sigh of relief, at least one thing was going exactly as planned. “You know Guanyu, sometimes I think I miss the actual fighting. These civil servants are unrelenting, the old regime has left so much red tape to cut through. I’m not sure I’m up to it” She said, frustrated and looking for a friend to talk to that had no ulterior motives.
Guanyu smiled. “Zhi, you aren’t telling me the Devil of Shenzhen can’t handle a few bureaucrats,” He said jokingly. “Don’t get me wrong, the fighting was great but the suit matches you well and you’ve probably done enough already to give all those bureaucrats a heart attack”
Just as Zhi was about to respond her secretary knocked on the door and walked into the room again. “Madam President, Commissar Shen is here to see you about the polling”
More bureaucracy, a short sigh escaped her as she nodded towards the secretary to let him in. “Please stay,” Zhi said as she noticed the Colonel trying to get up to leave the office. He quickly complied, as they both waited to see the Commissar.
