Nominations have closed!

Two Nominees have been put forth in the election to become the next ISAF Secretary General which will lead them from June 2012 - June 2014. With the previous Secretary General of two terms standing down, the next Secretary General could bring some new changes to the alliance. From Portugal, José Manuel Durão Barroso with a solid political background is looking towards prioritising ISAF Enlargement within Europe and North America; expanding to trade and economic support for Developing Nations and to overall, have an improved global presence for ISAF.

On the otherhand, the new British Nomination, Alex Murray, who's focus is on the implementation of ISAF-wide equipment, standardising it more for alliance-usage. Echoing the need for an enhanced global presence and a revaluation for existing members relating to their active status' within the alliance. Identifying countries that could possibly hold the alliance back.
With both candidates selected, we are now opening the opportunity for questions to be raised to both candidates which they will battle out for your support!

*Any questions are asked as a spectating ISAF-civilian, not government and this should be reflected in the type of questions asked.

Foreign Correspondent Nico Daal with the NOS would ask "To Mr Murray, what do you mean with the revaluation for existing members and which countries in your eyes could possibly hold the alliance back?"

The Secretary General Hopeful responded to the Foreign Correspondent:

"The alliance has some of the best countries in the world, who has stood beside all member states through thick and thin. But times are changing, the world doesn't resolve around the ability to deploy fleets or huge armies. ISAF has expanded it's political goals and interest yet we have countries that remain absent and voice-less throughout. I believe certain countries ought to be raised and spoken to regarding their involvement with the organisation, and an expectation in involvement with political and economic aspects. We are a military alliance, yes, but no decisions can be made without full interest by all members."

"Mr Murray. One of your goals in "Consistent global presence of ISAF". How would you say that ISAF go about this when they receive nothing but hate from other nations for having a presence?"

"Mr. Murray what do you mean about the acquisition of new equipment? Would this involve a standardized armies with full co-operation ability or single equipments to bolster ISAF edge in battle?"

“Hello sir, I’m Carina Bergfeldt from SVT. You say that ISAF is moving away from its image of sending huge military assets to focus on ‘politics’ - the term politics is very vague, what key areas are ISAF looking to develop internationally both inside and outside the organisation?”

Answering Carina Bergfeldt from SVT:

"I do believe Me and Mr.Murray share the same view in this matter. It is my belief that by Politics inside the alliance will be more directed towards diplomatic talks and summits between the member states, creating better policies that will work in favour of our populations. For example a free tade zone between the members...Outside the alliance, my view is, that it is better to try and reach a diplomatic solution then a military one, we saw to many young men die in the Battle of Europe, and subsequent wars. However not in vain, and their sacrifice will always be remembered.

People view ISAF as the world police however, in recent times we have moved away from this focus. It is why we should create more diplomatic ties with nations outside of ISAF, investing in them and helping other less developed nations grow more prosperous. ISAF is a alliance that is true, however we have the potential to make the world a better place to live, and a safer place to be in."

"Over the past couple years, the alliance has seen a ridiculous drop in global activity. At this moment in time, there is no active deployment under the ISAF Flag.. whereas in the years before, we've had consistent presence at sea, regular exercises and operations to maintain an active field for the group of nations involved. From Humanitarian to Peacekeeping, or even basic logistics. This is current history and I'd like to return to that.

Teh acqusition of new equipment is by no means standardising equipment. Whilst I do think it would be beneficial, but the difference in ISAF members is also beneficial. At the moment we have two ISAF Assets, the Swift 4x4 and the VAB. I'd like to see new equipment bought, more beneficial equipment too.. but also to see that equipment used more in ISAF environments."

Mr. Barroso would thank the member states that voted for him to receive the mantle of Secretary General, and a thank you to all those who did not, showing that ISAF still has a strong democratic process in which all members have their own opinion, which shows true strength.

He will follow his agenda, that he as presented to the member states, immediately starting to work on the alliance.
