ARGENTINE ANTARCTIC INSTITUTE

Highly esteemed Minister,

We would like to contact you formally in relation to the recently launched international antarctic scientific program, organized by the Argentine Antarctic Institute, and that constitutes the biggest international effort to date to advance scientific research on the Antarctic Continent.

The Argentine Republic presents a unique position in all antarctic affairs due to our close proximity and ability to reach the continent within few hours. This is only bolstered by the recent investments in the development of antarctic infrastructure in the form of scientific stations, airstrips and docks, that allow for efficient and safe presence in the white continent. As such, we are invested in promoting scientific research by sharing our own assets with the international community with the ultimate goal of achieving brakthroughs in research areas that are essential to the future of humankind.

Under this framework, the Argentine Antarctic Institute would like to invite you to nominate individual scientists and scientific programs in general that could benefit from conducting field research and studies on the Antarctic Continent. The argentine scientific stations are distributed around the Argentine Antarctic Territory and have access to a variety of geographical and biological areas, giving therefore access to very diverse scientific interests. The laboratories, aside from being equipped with the latest available equipment, have space destined to install special equipment upon request, and the stations have lodging capacity for visitors and foreign personnel.

This also opens the door for more long term cooperation, incuding the possibility to install additional laboratory modules provided by foreign scientific programs, that could be installed and logistically mantained by the Argentine Antarctic Institute.

With all this said, you will find a form attached to the present Note, to include a preliminary request to take part in the "International Antarctic Scientific Program" (IASP).

We look forward to receiving your feedback,

Kind regards,

Dr. Alberto Cuticcini
Director of the Argentine Antarctic Institute
Argentine Republic
