The president wishes to arrange for a video conference or an in person meeting between representatives of our two nations. As his first move as President he hopes to open up Iran to the world and form vital alliances. We feel that the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran can find a lot of common ground to build a mutually beneficial relationship. Iran is in need of a serious defensive capability upgrade, weare greatly interested in seeking such a deal with the Russian Federation. The President is aware of Iran's image on the international stage. It has only been 16 years since the revolution and the events since are still fresh in everyone's mind. That being said President Khatami hopes to pave a new path for Iran. Any dealings with the Russian Federation do not have to be made public.
