The Japanese Defence Agency has put out a tender to all countries willing to sell a class of Combat Stores Ship, also known as a Fleet Replenishment Ship, to serve in the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force.

The following is a list of requirements for said class of ships;

• Minimum capacity of 2,500 long tons of stores. Including refrigerated items.
• Crew of roughly 130 in size
• Minimum; max speed of 20 knots
• Minimum; max range of 8,000 nautical miles
• Fitted with point defence systems; i.e Phalanx CIWS
• Fitted with flight deck to enable VERTREP operations
