Subject: Evacuation of Embassy Staff
Recipient: Lawrence Adams, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, United Kingdom (Jamie)
Sender: Yōhei Kōno, Minister of Foreign Affairs, State of Japan
CC: Andrew Evans, Prime Minister, United Kingdom; Jason Green, Secretary of State for Defence, United Kingdom
Good evening Minister Adams, As far as we are aware, the Japanese Embassy is currently safe from threat of attack in the city of Paris - however we can not always guarantee the safety of our embassy staff. We are looking to forward deploy a single vessel to the Eastern Atlantic to place ourselves in a position to evacuate our embassy staff if need be. If at all possible, I would like to request your permission to access a port in the United Kingdom to station our vessel before initiating the rescue of our embassy staff. If you approve our request and have any suggestions on where our vessel could make port, that would be most helpful. However, we have already picked two locations which we think would be suited, these locations being:
- Portland Harbour on the Isle of Portland, Dorset
- Her Majesty's Naval Base Devonport in Plymouth, Devon
I look forward to and hope for a quick reply.
Many thanks,
Yōhei Kōno
Minister of Foreign Affairs
State of Japan
