21st Podhale Rifles Status​

Deployment​

The 21st Podhale Rifles would be flown in from their home base in Rzeszow, Poland to Gdynia, Poland to begin boarding the OKP Huragon. The seven PZL W-3W Helicopters would be loaded onto the OKP Huragon and the OKP General Pulaski. JW Formoza would be loaded onto the OKP Huragon before the 21st Podhale Rifles arrived to insure operational security was upheld about their presence on board during the communication blackout from the ship. Sailors would be granted a two day liberty to get their affairs in order and insure they were well rested before they would begin the first deployment of the Polish Fleet. Once the liberty was done the ships would depart the port of Gdynia with their crew in proper uniform and well rested to insure their capabilities throughout the deployment. Once in the Baltic Sea, the flotilla would maneuver into proper position. OKP Huragon would be in the center, acting as the flag ship. The OKP Baltyk would be behind the OKP Huragon to insure it was in the middle of the flotilla as well. OKP Kaszub would be on the left flank of the OKP Huragon, situated where it would offset the Baltyk and the OKP Huragon. OKP Taratul would be on the right flight opposite of the OKP Kaszub. OKP General Kazimierz Pulaski would be leading the Flotilla from the front. OKP Orzel, OKP Sep, OKP Dzik, and OKP Sokol would take up positions to the front left, front right, back right, and back left in that order. They would stay submerged when possible, no more than 600 feet when possible. OKP Orkan would position itself between the OKP Huragon and the OKP General Pulaski. OKP Piorun and OKP Grom would position themselves between OKP Dzik, OKP Sokol, and OKP Huragon; creating a rear wedge formation. OKP Nawigator and OKP Hydrograf would position themselves on either side of OKP Huragon to insure they stayed in the middle of all the anti-air protection available.

OKP Nawigator and OKP Hydrograf would be constantly monitoring their COMINT and ELINT stations to insure proper security was monitored from passing ships. All spacing between the ships was to Polish Naval specifications, allowing all ships within the Flotilla to perform extreme evasive maneuvers should it be necessary. The ships would be refueled and resupplied from OKP Baltyk when necessary. During the travel, OKP Huragon would have 3x PZL W-3W helicopters in the air monitoring for small craft approaching the vessels or other aircraft. All craft would be utilizing passive and active sonar and radar. Any vessel or aircraft caught would be reported to the bridge of the OKP Huragon.

Polish Navy and Land Forces would make no public mention of this except for an ongoing training exercise known as Operation Cooperative Poseidon on internal memos. No details about what ships were participating or where they were going would be in any of these memos.

For the first time since World War Two a polish military vessel has sailed through the straights of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean. The Royal Polish Navy main goal in deploying to the Mediterranean was to insure peace was kept between the four aggressor nations that had been in the news lately. With the destruction of the South African President's plane during transit, which had been securely communicated to the bridge of the ORP Huragon, the Flotilla had been placed on full alert. As the fleet approached the hotbed of activity and their final staging area of near Cyprus, the ORP Huragon would ground all flights of PZL W-3 Multipurpose helicopters before beginning to contact the US Carrier Strike Group. During this time there would be around the clock shifts manning the radar and sonar stations of the each ship, rotating personnel every eights hours to insure there was no fatigue. Food was served in the mess of each ship at the specific times of 0600, 1200, and 1800 for three hours each to insure that each sailor and pilot was receiving enough caloric intake for the mission.

As the vessels approached the operating area, they would spread out to encompass at least eight hundred feet between each ship. The outer ships would move out first to 1,600 feet from nearest ship before the inner ships would move to eight hundred feet. The ORP Huragon would maintain its position in the center of the formation. During the transit and during this transition, ORP Nawigator and ORP Hydrograf would move to six hundred feet off the back left and back right of the ORP Huragon to maintain cover from the rest of the ships anti-air and anti-missile protection. During the transit they would continue to monitor COMINT and ELINT equipment aboard their vessels, taking breaks every six hours to insure rest was

"United States Naval Vessels, this is ORP Huragon with the Royal Polish Third Flotilla. We approaching from the west at coordinates 33.585405, 28.587736. We are travelling at 12 knots and our heading is 96 degrees.

While the bridge attempted to contact the US Naval forces operating in the area, JW Formoza would begin performing live fire exercises with Royal Land Forces aboard the ORP Huragon. Targets would be set up at the end of the flight deck of the ORP Huragon to insure that no rounds would be fired at friendly personnel. They would stand twenty-five meters away from the targets before beginning target firing. First the Formoza would fire one magazine from their HK 416s before moving to the ten meter mark and reloading. From the ten meter mark they would walk and fire towards the target before letting their rifle hand from the sling and transition to the WIST-94 pistol and firing that as they were within two meters of the targets. They would repeat this process for each ten man team of Formoza and 21st Podhale Rifles. Once the live fire training was done, they would begin casualty care simulation. They would evaluate each members ability to handle different types of simulated wounds. They would perform this training in full uniform. They would have breaks every hour and a half to insure each soldier was well hydrated and rested enough in the heat of the Mediterranean they were unaccustomed to.

Any ship that would need refueling or resupply would radio the ORP Baltyk and the ORP Huragon, where a the ships would transition to allow refueling from the Replenishment tanker under the direction of the flag officer on the Huragon to insure vessels would not move to closely to each other and risk damage.

The 3rd Flotilla spent much of the time patrolling the area around the American Carrier Strike Group, carefully monitoring all communications in the area utilizing the sensitive equipment located on board the ORP Nawigator and Hydrograf. During this time spent patrolling, the 21st Podhale Rifles and the JW Formoza group assigned to the ORP Huragon would continue their methodical training on the open sea. One of the exercises they partook in was a simulated boarding of the ORP Kaszub by JW Formoza. The special operations unit would form up on the RHIBs carried by the ORP Huragon before maneuvering quickly to the Kaszub where they would place ladders on the railing and climb aboard. Using weapons that had not been loaded, they maneuvered through the ship as quickly and efficiently as possible so as to not injure themselves or anyone else. Upon taking the bridge, they would call it a mission success and return to the Huragon aboard the RHIBs where they would be refueled and safely stored within the Amphibious Assault Ship.

Upon receiving word that the American Carrier Group would be leaving and offered to escort them past Sicily. Wiceadmiral Konstanty Lew would return the encrypted communications with one of his own stating he would follow them out of Gibraltar. Preparations were made immediately to go underway and at the four hour mark, the ships were topped off of diesel and the helicopters were awaiting clearance to turn their engines over and begin surveilling the area. As the two fleets began to move out of the Mediterranean, ORP Huragon would launch five PZL W-3Ws, completely fueled and armed. The pilots of which were wearing proper attire for flying at sea, flight suits and flotation device, would begin a circle pattern around the Polish Flotilla. During their journey, the Nawigator and Hydrograf would continue monitoring all communications they could intercept. Once 20% fuel remained, the helicopters would begin landing procedures while another group of five would begin preparing to take off. They would continue this practice until they passed through the straight of Gibraltar and began their northward journey back to Poland.

Upon diverging from the American Fleet, Wiceadmiral Konstanty Lew would send a bottle of Krupnik and a challenge coin made in honor of the ORP Huragon via helicopter after sending encrypted communication to Admiral Nelson that he was sending a present as a thank you for allowing Poland to co-operate.

The 3rd Flotilla would continue back to the port of Gydania where they would carefully begin docking their ships utilizing Harbor Control and tug boats to insure there were no accidents.
