From: Peter MacKay, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Canada
Your Excellency,
I would like to start this message off by stating how happy I am to hear that you have recovered from the attack on your person. My family and I were both worried and spent nights praying for your good health and recovery.
Sadly, however, I must continue this message to discuss business.
I don't doubt you share my beliefs that the nation of Thailand is currently problematic for the stability of the world and to the safety of various foreign citizens. There was the bombings of the American, British, and other embassies; the invasion of New Caledonia; its conflict with Cambodia; and now the murder of an Egyptian diplomat. Steps must be taken to uphold the safety of these foreign citizens and to do so, open dialogue between the nation state of these citizens and Thailand must be upheld.
With that said, if you would entrust Canada in this duty, we can have our embassy in Bangkok assure that your government and theirs have easy communication lines and handle all visa and other paperwork for American citizens. Additionally, our embassy will offer asylum to any American citizen that requests it and we will do everything in our power to assure that they return home promptly and safely.
If this is something reasonable for you, please let me know and I'll inform the Thai government and the Canadian embassy in Bangkok of this policy.
Kindest Regards,
Peter MacKay
Prime Minister
Kingdom of Canada
