CAIRO - The Minister of Infrastructure lead today the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new, expanded and upgrade Cairo International Airport. He was accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and the Secretary of Transportation, in addition to several businessmen, journalists and workers that took part in this multi-million project. This important infrastructure upgrade will provided a significant boost to international tourism by facilitating the access to new airlines and at a cheaper and more efficient rate, while at the same time providing an improved service to the passengers. The upgrades include: - Modernization of Terminals 1 and 2 (incorporation of new technologies and aesthetical renovations). - New security meassures in passenger and customs areas. - Extension of runways 05L/23R and 05C/23C by 20%. - Construction of additional hangars to accomodate more maintenance-service providers. - Construction of a new hotel next to the airport, for transiting passengers. - Improvement of duty-free shopping area, with place for additional shops. - Renovation of control tower equipment and signaling instruments. - New covered public parking building. - New transit-hub for public transport and taxis. |
