Many Muslims in Mexico gathered in central Mexico City today to protest the events happening in the Middle East, following the attack on Saudi Arabia and the more than 30,000 killed. The protest would start off relatively slow with no more than 100 protesters gathering outside the Chapultepec Castle. The protesters appeared to want the Mexican government to act on these atrocities. The protesters were seen holding signs and chanting in Arabic as well as Spanish. More numbers began to flock to the streets throughout the day. Turning the number from around 100 to well into the thousands.

The protesters began to encircle the Castle as the numbers grew. Many other protesters from the Catholic missions in the area also began to gather. A minority of Jewish protesters also began to arrive. Things began to take a violent turn, however. It is unclear how the protesters began to be violent, although many speculate that it was the larger Arab group that began the violence, as many eyewitnesses have stated. Rocks and other objects began to be thrown. Many blunt objects also appeared to be used. After about 4 hours there was all out fighting throughout the city. The Chapultepec Castle was placed on lockdown, and the Special Urban Tactical Federales (SUTF) were deployed. The SUTF showed up and plowed through the crowds with their vehicles resulting in many injuries and at least 4 deaths. A perimeter was made around the Castle. Many fire trucks were also dispatched and began spraying water on the protesters in an attempt to make them flee the area.

The protest did not end, however. Many more protesters continued to gather in the streets. Things took a turn for the worse when gunfire could be heard down the road. People began fleeing in terror. The SUTF rushed in and open fired on part of the crowd, that they believed to be the gunmen. At first it was speculated that cartel members were attempting to incite violence, although later reports have now shown that the gunmen where from a local catholic church. These events lasted until late in the evening. Presidente Fox declared a State of Emergency and placed a temporary curfew for Mexico City. At 2200hrs. the SUTF began arresting protesters on all sides. By the next day, more than 200 people were injured with another 74 in the hospital in critical condition. As of now 29 deaths have been reported, to include 2 SUTF members, 2 Jewish protesters, 3 Catholic protesters, and 22 Arab protesters. This investigation is still open and is pending further information.
