From the Nigerian Trade Minister: Samuel Ioraer Ortom
To the British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Christopher Norris MP

Greetings, I am writing this due to the directive from my government that the best way to expand Nigerian relations with the world is through the avid pursuit of trade, as such I represent our interests in that area. I would like to pursue a close and effective trade relationship with much of Europe and this of course would include the United Kingdom. We are most interested in acquiring Cars, Mechanical Machinery, and Electrical Machinery. We ourselves can offer

1. Rubbers
2. Plastics
3. Crude Oil
4. Natural Gas
5. Tobacco

We also offer to handle all shipping both of products too and from your ports. I look forward to your reply.

SubjectRE: Trade

Dear Nigerian Trade Minister: Samuel Ioraer Ortom ,

Thank you for contacting the Ministry of Foreign affairs. I appreciate your email, and are happy to see that Nigeria is interested in opening trade with the United Kingdom, and is certainly something we'd like to push ahead with. As of this moment in time, we are, from your own exports, seeking to import Rubbers and Plastics into the UK. However, we would like to offer our own resources in trade, our own primary exports include:

1. Cars
2. Crude Petroleum
3. Organic Chemicals
4. Mechanical Machinery
5. Electrical Machinery

What would you seek to import yourself, in return for the Plastics and Rubbers? Alternatively, if you are not looking for your own resources, how much would you be intent on charging annually for the delivery of both the resources on my request?

Kind Regards,
CNorris

We are happy to hear of your interest in trade relations. Indeed given our common language it is common sense that we would befriend one another. As well as our common histories. We are very much interested in a bilateral trade agreement and we would be happy to export both rubbers and plastics to the United Kingdom. We would further offer to run the shipping of cars and mechanical machinery from the United Kingdom to Nigeria.

A biweekly exchange of Plastics and Rubbers from Nigeria in exchange for cars and mechanical machinery from the United Kingdom is a very welcome agreement in my opinion
