PROJECT INFORMATION | The Denel Overberg Research and Testing Facility is a weapons systems development and testing facility in the Overberg region on the south coast of South Africa, near Arniston, Western Cape. It serves as the principal research facility for military hardware for the South African government-owned corporation Denel. Facilities at the site will include: Missile launch pads, tracking radar, optical missile tracking systems, cinetheodolites, as well as the use of Overberg Air Force Base, home of the future South African Air Force Test Flight for the research of aeronautic, missile, and air-defense systems. On-site workshops, firing ranges, and realistic urban simulation models for the development and testing of a wide range of personal equipment from sidearms to crew-based weapons and everything in-between. Garages and mechanical support for the research and development of military ground vehicles. Subterranean storage facilities for prototype ground vehicles and/or aircraft. Security measures including: round-the-clock patrols by provincial reserve infantry, 2-step biometric security (combination iris and eye vein scans) for sensitive research areas, military-grade encryption for all servers, and infrared capable closed-circuit video surveillance. |
