PROJECT INFORMATION | Project Omicron is the government's endeavour to prepare the Japanese economy to be an industrial powerhouse in the 21st century. Under the plan companies such as Canon, Nikon, Toshiba and Sony that have been involved in semiconductor manufacturing are given direct investments to construct new fabrication plants (fabs) throughout the country. Specifically eight fabs will be constructed, one in each region of the country. This is done to attract highly educated citizens to live in less prominent regions as well and share the fruits of the digital revolution fairly. Each of these fabs will use EUV lithography machines to guarantee state of the art microchips. |
