PROJECT COST | 1,400,000,000.00 |
COMPLETION DATE | 22/4/2020 |
PROJECT INFORMATION | As the Projet Ferroviaire et Routier fills hundreds of thousands of jobs, both skilled and unskilled, paved roads begin to grow within every major city in the west. Greater still, many of the country's aging railway lines are under intense repair, sparking recruitment for engineers and cartographers and laborers. Lumber surges as rails cut through jungles, wherever soil is solid enough to safely build upon. Even so, the eastern and largest parts of the Congo remain largely unconnected, relying on trade through the Congo River itself. A project, officially distinct from the more popular Rail and Road Project, is being conducted across the country. A rail line, splitting off in multiple places, is set to be built over the following months. The rail will be large enough to transport military equipment and cargo from one end of the country to the other. It's suspected that, as it ends in Kivu, its use may be more tied to the former than the latter. Spanning 1200 miles (1900km) this rail travels along the southern half of the DRC, from Kinshasa all the way to Bukavu. At a price of $1,000,000.00 per mile of rail - considering the DRC's purchasing power - this rail is incredibly expensive but incredibly durable, traveling along old dirt highways and connecting thousands of towns and villages to the major cities of: (In order along the railway) Kenge Kikwit Tshikapa Kananga Mbuji-Mayi Kabinda Lubao Mamba Kasongo Bukavu These connections - as well as $200,000,000.00 in railway stops and stations - will connect the East and West. More importantly it will allow the Western connections to the sea, from the Rail and Road Project, to reach all the way to Kivu in less time than it ever has before. |
