Fijian Crown Restoration
|
Meet Princess Maari apparent heir to the ancient Kingdom of Fiji, chiefess of Suva. The Fijian government recent proposal in referendum to the people following the coup of 1987. In this months vote, it will decide the fate of our republic. |
Born September 24th, 1974 (23 years old) is the heir to the Fijian Throne. Current chiefess of Suva she served as a voluntary constable to the Nabau district and later a diving instructor at Tamavau beach. Growing up the young princess did not live a life of royalty. Her father prior to the 1987 coup was a teacher at Veiuto Primary School in Suva to which Maari attended. They lives in a two bedroom villa in Muanikau. Maari's mother passed at age 26 shortly after the birth of Maari's younger from a botched robbery on their home. This led to Maari's activism and joining of the Fijian police force at the age of 19. She sought to protect and serve her community and bring law an order after the 1987 coups that heavily destabilized the government and government trust. At the age of 20 she was declared the heir to the throne of Fiji after the University of Fiji discovered her ancestral line. Fiji has not had a Fijian monarch since 1874... which is 100 years to the date of Princess Maari's birth. In 1874 King Cakaobau "volunteered" his crown to the british and Fiji became a Crown Colony until the 1987 coup which is 10 years to the date. With this historic occasion, Fiji can pass the referendum which would place the heir to the throne who was born 100 years after the end of the kingdom on the 10 year anniversary of our nation. Referendum on the restoration of the monarchy will be alongside the 1997 constitution. The Polls are expected to close Friday this week. |
