[Sweden]: Telephone Call to Spain

Deputy Secretary of Defence, Julie Åström, makes a private and encrypted telephone call from her office to the Spanish Ministry of Defence.
When answered, the Spanish would be prompted to encrypt the call at their end and notified of the 'TOP SECRET' marking appended to the call.

[Zak]

Francisco Camps, Secretary-General for Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence answers the call from his Swedish counterpart and encrypts the call from his end of the line.

"Secretary Åström, what a lovely surprise. How are you today?"

[Connor]

"Secretary-General, it's good to hear from you, I am very well thank you - I hope you are well too?"

The Secretary scratches her head, unsure how to drop the subject matter.

"Just a quick call in reference to an movement of vessels through the Atlantic in the coming days, which I am hoping Spain would be able to assist with?"

 

[Zak]

The Secretary-General leant back into his seat, taking a sip on his iced tea which had been prepared for him before entering the video call.

"I am very well Secretary, it's been a very busy week in Madrid with the new government ascending to power. I am surprised to be hearing from you. I thought it might have been regarding the matter with Deputy Prime Minister Arrimadas."

He takes a break from speaking, raising an eyebrow to what his Swedish counterpart had requested.

"What support can I offer my good Swedish friends? Do you need logistical support? I can have the Spanish Navy offer our new replenishment oilier's to offer fuel to your Swedish ships. They can also be used to replenish food supplies, drink supplies and any other supplies which the Swedish Navy may require."

 

[Connor]

"I do apologise for the unsolicited call, it's funny you mention refuelling because we have a large relocation of equipment taking place, during which we will need replenishment. Travelling with our vessels will be our own replenishment vessel which I would request whether I could refuel her in a Spanish port to assist the movement onwards to South America... this would avoid bringing a heavy number of vessels into the Spanish ports which would naturally cause congestion in civilian shipping lanes. Wed like to remain as low profile as possible and cause as little collateral damage as possible."

 

[Zak]

"South America... I don't believe Sweden has any interest or claims in South America do they? Are you continuing onto South America and then onto Antarctica. I have seen something in the news about New Zealand today and I am wondering if it is to do with said news. One of our Deputy Prime Ministers has already made contact with someone from your government about said issue. But yes, a replenishment vessel will be allowed to dock at a Spanish port. If you can make it there, I believe your ship could dock at Las Palmas Naval Base in the Canary Islands."

 

[Connor]

"The progression of equipment to Antarctica is unrelated to the New Zealanders, it is entirely coincidental that following heavy investment in equipment that their government has announced claim on the continent. I am limited to what I am able to discuss on that matter as you can probably expect; it's better suited for the Department of Foreign Affairs and sits outside my remit. Las Palmas sounds excellent, although I am unsure as to whether or not I have the capability to reach the islands prior to being dangerously low on fuel, do you have an alternative in mainland Spain if this were to be the case?"

 

[Zak]

"Er, give me a second... What about the Port of Vigo? - is that suitable for your replenishment vessel?"

 

[Connor]

"One of my aides has just emailed me... hold on... I think the Canary Islands would be perfect and would eliminate the need for refuelling in South America, shortening our journey. Would you permit us to make numerous stops in your port? With solely the replenishment vessel? Your waters will never be impeded by warships."

 

[Zak]

"I shall inform the relevant authorities at the Port Las Palmas of your arrival, Secretary."

 

[Connor]

"Excellent, with your permission we intend to use the Canary Islands as a means to shuttle fuel to Antarctica for storage, this will allow the Swedish Royal Navy to operate independently from the Antarctic continent... I understand you've expressed your acknowledgement of our claim and your support in allowing us to supply the region with much needed fuels will be fundamental to our progression in defence"

 

[Zak]

"Will this just be the replenishment vessel shuttling fuel?"

 

[Connor]

"Yes, both to and from Antarctica - on occasion we may need other supplies including foodstuffs but for now, we should be sufficient."

 

[Zak]

"That is fine, I shall inform the relevant authorities at the conclusion of this call to make the necessary arrangements for the arrival of your ship to the Port of Las Palmas."

 

[Connor]

"Secretary-General you have been unbelievably helpful, thank you for your time, should you have any issues with the deployment or any questions in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact me immediately on this telephone number."

 

[Zak]

"Anything to help our good Swedish friends out, should you need anything then just call the Ministry of Defence and ask for myself."

 

[Connor]

"Thank you, enjoy your day, I will link in with you to ensure the operation is running smoothly" should nothing else need discussing the Secretary would end the call.
