Prime Minister,
On behalf of the people of Thailand, I extend our deepest condolences to the government and people of Iraq following the recent terrorist attack in Baghdad. This act of violence stands as a stark reminder of the global threat posed by terrorism. Thailand understands the profound impact of terrorism, having experienced the Bangkok incident just one year ago. We commend your nation's unwavering commitment to combating extremism and fostering a peaceful future for its people. We believe that collaboration and international cooperation are essential in confronting this shared challenge. Thailand stands ready to work together with Iraq and other partners to promote global security and stability.
As you may be aware, my government officials have reached out to their Iraqi counterparts to express our solidarity and explore potential avenues of assistance. These communications have consistently emphasized our respect for Iraqi sovereignty and our willingness to collaborate only with your nation's full consent. Thailand's foreign policy prioritizes both non-interference and humanitarian leadership. We are deeply concerned about the suffering of the Iraqi people, both from economic hardship and terrorism. However, we firmly believe that Iraq, like all nations, has the right to self-determination and to address its challenges as it sees fit. Therefore, our offers of assistance have been intentionally open-ended, allowing Iraq to determine the nature and extent of any potential cooperation. We believe this approach reflects our commitment to being both a respectful and dependable partner.
Thailand remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Iraq in its fight against terrorism. We are prepared to explore various forms of collaboration, tailored to your nation's specific needs and preferences. The Thai Foreign Ministry stands ready to leverage its international relationships to facilitate dialogue and cooperation among regional and global partners in addressing security challenges in the Middle East. While Thailand maintains a capable military force, we believe that any potential deployment should be determined through collaborative discussions and with your full consent. We are committed to acting in a manner that respects Iraq's sovereignty and operational lead. The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) is prepared to share its expertise and collaborate on intelligence gathering efforts, if deemed beneficial by your government. We recognize the importance of a comprehensive approach to combatting terrorism and believe that collaborative efforts hold the greatest promise for achieving long-term security and stability.
Prime Minister, I have full confidence in your nation's leadership and its capacity to address the challenges it faces. Thailand remains committed to supporting Iraq in its fight against terrorism, and we stand ready to collaborate in a manner that respects your sovereignty and operational lead. Should Iraq require assistance at any point, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thailand will always be a reliable partner, and we are unwavering in our commitment to promoting regional stability and security.
Yours in Diplomacy,
Thaksin Shinawatra
Prime Minister
