Prime Minister,
I hope your recent electoral victory and the appointment of the Prime Minister of the coalition government has been successful.
As the Prime Minister of the Republic of Thailand, I share a deep appreciation for the British nation, both its long history and its rich heritage. It is my sincere desire that both our great nation can continue to strengthen our existing bilateral partnership and serve as an anchor for the international community and its power balance. Thailand and the United Kingdom have proven in the past that we share mutual respect and unwavering devotion to democratic governance and human rights. All of those remarks are what has led me to convey this message to you.
I’m inviting you to Bangkok for a state visit from the United Kingdom to Thailand. We have demonstrated to be a strong partner during the last four years of the British previous administration. This will be our opportunity to convey a clear message to the international community: Thailand and the United Kingdom shared a genuine, friendly relationship based on the foundation of democracy and human rights.
With the recent event of assassination attempt on the United States President Al Gore, the topic of domestic violence and international terrorism is a considered agenda of our visit. Out of three World Powers, the United Kingdom remains an only nation currently not affected by terrorism. I have a profound hope that we share a common sentiment against the atrocities committed against humanity.
Within our high-level meeting, I have planned three additional, yet vital agendas for us to anticipate to the state visit. With our two great nations being renowned for their technological advancements and economically robust, the topic of trade promotion, technological collaboration, and environmental initiatives would be beneficial for our nations and the world. Furthermore, the strong Thailand-UK relationship would supplement the regional stability of Asia despite the rise of new powers.
I would like to reiterate our shared interests and values, which are prevalent in our Student Exchange Program, which has been successful in fostering our cultural ties and the relationship between our constituents. Thailand and the United Kingdom are the triumphant of democratic governance in the Eastern and Western world, which provided substantial evidence of our mutual foundational approach to policy.
I would like to propose the state visit from the United Kingdom to Thailand for a high-level dialogue between our two countries during the late January. Thailand will prepare the logistic and security escort for the British delegates at the moment your airplane reached the extend of our air defense range. There will be rigor security measure and a large amount of mass medias and general populace during the visit. The top officials from our government, military commanders, and I would be welcoming you and the representatives in Suvarnabhumi airport.
I look forward to your positive response and am eager to welcome you to Thailand. May this state visit serve as a milestone in our enduring friendship and as a testament to our shared commitment to a more stable, prosperous, and equitable world.
Yours in diplomacy,
Thaksin Shinawatra
Prime Minister
Republic of Thailand
