Secretary Wallström,

I am sure you would agree that the situation in Russia has become critical. It is only a matter of time before the various factions throughout Russia break out into some kind of kinetic conflict. We would like to prevent this if possible, however it appears that it is probably inevitable at this point. It is clear to the United States that the communist and nationalist factions in Siberia and eastern Russia are a direct threat to global peace and stability. A small but important amount of diplomatic progress was made between Russia and the United States under the presidency of Yeltsin. We are hopeful that democratic reforms will continue under President Putin. At this time, the United States is prepared to declare support for the Russian Federation, under President Putin, as the legitimate government of Russia. We feel that international support for the Russian Federation would go a long way to having some of the Russian factions fall into line. We are looking to make this announcement with a number of other countries from the Free World. The Kingdom of Sweden is the first nation that I am contacting because the President feels that Sweden's support would be exceptionally beneficial for this effort.

Please let me know if the Swedish government would be willing to co-sign a statement of support on this matter. Also, please let me know if your government is in any need of assistance at this time.

Dearest Charlie Price,

Deputy Secretary let me first thank you for your correspondence in relation to the crisis in Russia which has undoubtedly taken a drastic turn since the European Economic Crisis. I see this situation as ever evolving and as you can expect with us being so close to the Russian border, we are monitoring the situation extremely closely not only for our own national security but also that of our allies, friends and partners in order to ensure multilateral cooperation kerbs any potential for this to spill outside of Russia as we know it.

I cannot comment directly on which factions are to blame. I cannot comment directly on whether or not Sweden supports President Putin in his rule. I cannot comment directly that international intervention at this stage will not just exacerbate an already tense situation.

At present we are consulting with the National Security Council as well as local and military intelligence gathering authorities in order to build a picture on the threat to global stability from Russia. It would be premature for us to announce any form of affiliation on any level without a full and thorough investigation supported by facts; we would expect the same from the United States of America. As such I ask, what information has been gathered by your own intelligence authorities? Do you have any military or intelligence personnel affiliated with or within Russia? Can you categorically state that the threat to worldwide security is eliminated with President Putin in power?

We must tread carefully.

I look forward to your response which will undoubtedly support our efforts to build a larger picture on this matter.

Assistant Secretary Guztavsson,

At this time the White House would like to have a united coalition of nations that fervently declare their condemnation for the communist and fascist factions in Siberia and Eastern Europe. While there is argument within our own government as to whether or not the Tsarist faction or the Russian Federation (under Vladimir Putin) would be the moderate and reasonable government, there is universal agreement that these communist and fascist factions are what the United States has stood opposed to since our founding. I hope that the Swedish government feels the same way, and that this is something in which we can work together. Condemning the communist and fascists factions, as well as some of the secessionist and smaller ones, will not require us to choose between the Federation and the Tsarists. If you find this agreeable, I can have our Ambassador in Stockholm deliver a copy of a proposed joint statement for you to review.

The White House eagerly hopes that the Kingdom of Sweden would be willing to take a united stated with the United States and other nations of the Free World against these communist and fascist factions.
