A wrapped package would find itself left outside Glacisgata 1 in Oslo, the Ministry of Defense. The package itself was extraordinary. The box was inlaid with the crest of the Republic of Vietnam government as well as President Ngo's Presidential seal. The box itself was gorgeous. It was built out of East Indian Rosewood and rubbed down with oil to give it a dark, nearly black sheen. The inside was inlaid with soft, maroon velvet. Attached to the center of the box would be a medal and a ribbon: the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross (Special Services). The Gallantry Cross is only awarded to military personnel, civilians, and Armed Forces units and organizations in recognition of deeds of valor or heroic conduct.

Citation for Captain Robin Schau of the Royal Norweigan Armed Forces |
---|
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life and the life of his men above and beyond the call of duty while serving as Protection Detail, Norweigan Diplomatic Mission to Kosovo, Royal Norweigan Armed Forces. Captain Schau was performing routine duties at the Norweigan Diplomatic Mission to Kosovo when the Serbian Union conducted a full-scale military incursion into Kosovo. Despite overwhelming odds against them, Captain Schau continued to perform his duties as head of the Protection Detail to the Diplomatic Mission, preventing Serbian forces and rogue Kosovo Liberation Army militants from taking the Embassy and harming his charge, the Norweigan Ambassador to Kosovo. On the eve of Serbia's withdrawal from Kosovo, the capital of Pristina came under a heavy artillery attack, whereas a shell from a Serbian artillery piece struck the Embassy, killing the Ambassador outright and several of Captain Schau's men, along with numerous civilians. Despite this tragedy, Captain Schau continued to serve at ground zero of the Norweigan Embassy, rescuing trapped civilians and recovering the body of the Ambassador. Performing without little sleep, food, water, and manpower, Captain Schau performed admirably in service of his country and the Republic of Vietnam provided assistance to local assets on the ground. By his undaunted courage, intrepid fighting spirit, and unwavering devotion to duty, Captain Schau not only gallantly served the Republic of Vietnam and the Kingdom of Norway but to the greater benefit of humanity, thereby reflecting great credit upon himself and upholding the highest traditions of the Republic of Vietnam Special Services. |
