[Èire] Closure of Embassies with Argentina

Official Statement on the part of The Office of Foreign Affairs for The Irish Republic

It is with great sadness that we in the Office of Foreign Affairs are writing to inform you of our government's decision to announce the closure of the Irish Embassy located in Buenos Aires and the subsequent withdrawal of our diplomatic personnel from said location.

This decision was a long time in coming and is the unfortunate consequence of Argentina's support for the so called "State of Israel" with whom we are at odds with due to the nature of their illegal occupation of Palestine.

Despite this we are reminded and look upon with great fondness the prior support received from Argentina and the historical ties that bind our two nations together. It is our hope that one day, these differences can be reconciled and future support for "Israel" curtailed in the name of peace.

As it stands, there shall be no such compulsion for Argentine Diplomats or Nationals to prepare their departure from Irish soil. The rights and liberties of which are guaranteed by the constitution of Ireland.

All computer would wiped of the files, records put to flame and shredder. An orderly line of diplomatic personnel would be formed and preparations made to leave Argentina within 42 hours. From the embassy flag staff, the Tricolour was hauled down in a ceremonial fashion and folded being placed in suitcase. embassy security would escort the column to the local airport.
