Aerial Defence Training Program I

Classified Information

Operation Background

In order to further improve the operative capability and effectiveness of the aergentina aerial defence units (SAM and Aerial radar operators), a mandatory 3 stage program has been ordered for all personnel. The program will include practical and theoretical simulations against real and simulated targets under different conditions and rules of engagement.

Simulation systems, drones and real aircraft and missiles would be employed for the training.

Deployed Forces

- Radar System Operator (500)
- Missile Defence Systems Operator (500)
- Instructors

- 100 DRDO Lakshya
- 12 F-16E/F Block 60
- 4 Panavia Tornado GR-4
- 12 IAI Nesher
- Computer simulators

- Argentine Primary 3D radar
- Voronezh Radar
- Kolchuga Radar
- Ar-SAM
- S-300PS/PSU
- S-400
- HQ-29
- HQ-19
- A-135 (not mobile, used the one in Buenos Aires)
- Ya-Zahra
- Bavar-373

Logistical Details

The program will take place in El Palomar Air Base in Buenos Aires. All operators would arrive there and will be hosted in allocated in the area for the duration of the exercise. All arcraft and drones would operatives from said airbase. They would be safely relocated there for the duration of the program. All radar and systems needed for the training would be brought temporarily there.

The course would begin with a theoretical review of the technical specifications of the different radar and missile systems available within the argentine defense network and IADS.

The personnel would be divided into groups, to reduce them number of participant in each lecture to improve the interaction between the officers and the instruction team.

They would learn review and memorize general characteristics of the systems they were going to operate as aprt of the argentine armed forces, but they would also be instructed on reading signals and adjusting radar and sensor settings to improve the detection capacity of certain types of targets, like low flying objects, high-altitude UAVs/UCAVs and Ballistic Missiles. They would work with samples like the Tomahawk, Minuteman III, Trident and other Air-to-Surface Missiles most commonly employed by "western" nations.

The classes would mvoe on to a more "mixed" type, reviewing recording of different radar signature recordings from past deployments or foreign conflicts.

Operators would be instructed in how to read and interpret the radar signals according to a fixed procedure, to reduce the probability of judgement errors as much as possible and therefore diminish the required time from detection of the incoming threat to the moment were a counter meassure is taken in the form of the launching of a vector to intercept.

They would review the operational methods and how to counter Anti-Radiation Missiles, using the basic tactic of not actively employing all available radar systems at once, but relying on few of them and only using the others at the moment of launching a SAM, shutting them down afterwards. This is possible due to the existance of an IADS. This way, the unnecesary exposure of many systems is avoided."

The next step of the program would be more practical, and would include effective operation of the systems the operative would be assigned during their routine duties."

Continuing with the program, the groups would be assigned to the different radar and weapon systems they will be operating as part of their official assignments.

These would include:

- Argentine Primary 3D radar
- Voronezh Radar
- Kolchuga Radar
- Ar-SAM
- S-300PS/PSU
- S-400
- HQ-29
- HQ-19
- A-135 (not mobile, used the one in Buenos Aires)
- Ya-Zahra
- Bavar-373

The systems would be installed and readied for usage around the El Palomar and Campo de Mayo military grounds near Buenos Aires.

In the meantime, the different aircraft (Nesher, Tornado and F-16) would be readied and fully fueled. They will be used as targets to be detected, and will have different drills to execute, including flying at different altitudes, speeds and under different weather conditions to try simulate realistic scenarios.

The operators would being their practical training.

The operators would continue practicing on their assigned systems, impriving their capacity to detect, track and engage aerial targets at different altitudes (including very low targets, such as cruise missiles) , angles and under varying climatic conditions.

ONe of the goals would be to reduce the time from first detection to locking on and firing a response. This would be achieved by improving the capacity of the operators to work in tandem, between the radar officers and the operatives in charge of the operation of the SAM systems.

They would also learn and practice the previously mentioned method of reducing the efficiency of enemy Anti-Radiation Missiles by relaying on the interconnectivity of the different radars that made up the IADS.

The program would continue by introducing new elements and potential situations the operators might encounter under real war scenarios. Special dedication would be given to the radar operators that will be working on ABMS in order to improve their capacity of identifying targets with their radars, classify them and prepare the proper countermeassures. Systems such as the A-135 or the planned Arrow-3 would be studied.

The operators would also undergo a "refreshment" regarding all the different engagement protocols they had to follow under real circumstances, to follow the chain of command and react in the swiftest way possible.

Once all this was done, and the radar and weapon system operators had concluded their training, they would be moved back to their usual stations, same as with all the equipment used during this exercise.

The personnel would have gained further proficiency in Aerial Defence (radar and SAM systems).

Training Complete.
