Recognizing the need for the Empire of France to maintain constant vigilance across a wide expanse of territory, military planners needed to provide for the means for the French state to rapidly mobilize in response to rising threats while not maintaining an unreasonable posture. Due to these needs and considering the size of the Imperial Army, organization mostly takes place along Division-sized formations.

Corps de réaction rapide, Lille
The Rapid Reaction Corps is the always ready and always vigilant formation of the Imperial Army, it commands the bulk of the Army's formations and commands all operations beyond Metropolitan France. It is headquartered in Lille and is commanded by the Commander Réaction Rapide (COMRERA), usually a four-star general.
