DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS |
SECURITY CLASSIFICATION: PROTECTED (Encrypted) |
6 January 1997 |
Dear Whom it May Concern, At this present time we exceed your maximum allowance for diplomatic, mission and security staff at our embassies. May I reiterate that our diplomatic and mission staff are unarmed and all our security staff are contracted by security companies in your nation. Due to Canada being a Commonwealth realm and our countries have strong historic bilateral ties and the great exchange of people between our nations we deem it necessary to have 200 diplomatic and mission staff in our High Commission in Ottawa. In addition we would also like 50 diplomatic and mission staff in our Consulate-General in Toronto. Yours Sincerely, Dr. Carmen Lawrence. |
