CONSUL-GENERAL OF AUSTRALIA TO HONG KONG AND MACAU |
SECURITY CLASSIFICATION: PROTECTED (Encrypted) |
3 June 2000 |
Dear Chief Executive of Hong Kong, My name is Susan Boyd, I am the Consul-General of Australia for Hong Kong and Macau. Since the handover of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to China the relationship between Australia and Hong Kong, which has historically been strong due to colonial ties, has become sour. As we are aware, Hong Kong is able to conduct its own foreign affairs under the Basic Law for Hong Kong. I would like to meet with you to discuss a potential free trade agreement between Hong Kong and Australia and to look at other areas in which we may cooperate. Yours sincerely, Susan Boyd. |
