"Alright! Another day for a state visit, aren't we?" Deputy Prime Minister Det Boon-Long's voice brimmed with enthusiasm for the impending journey to Taipei, as he engaged with his subordinates on their way to the airplane.

"Yes, sir. Hard to believe this is our fourth diplomatic venture this month. From Japan and Turkey to Korea, and now, our moment with Taipei. The excitement is palpable," responded a member of his delegation, his tone effervescent, as if this were a pivotal moment they had all been anticipating.

"But let's not forget, we're engaging with a largely unrecognized state; the discussions will be plentiful." Det's grin was infectious, lighting up the faces of his team as they ascended the airplane stairs.

"Absolutely, sir! Word has it that Deputy Korn has already made significant strides, according to intelligence reports from Tokyo. It seems the Japanese Prime Minister is as naive as the rumors suggest." Laughter erupted among the group, filling the air as the airplane's gate sealed behind them, marking the onset of a moment laden with gravitas.

"And what of Deputy Pitak? Shouldn't he be landing in Ankara soon?" Another voice chimed in, stirring curiosity throughout the cabin. "Indeed, Turkey's domestic propaganda is as blatant as it appears, a legacy perhaps of their wartime history."

"Aham!" Det's exclamation reverberated through the cabin, transforming it into a sanctified space. "Regardless of how emboldened these re-emerging nations may feel, or how much they underestimate global dynamics, our vigilance must remain unyielding. Due diligence is non-negotiable. Understand?" His words hung in the air, a solemn pause enveloping the cabin before it was punctuated by a unanimous "Yes, sir!"

After landing at Taoyuan International Airport the Thai delegation would be escorted to cars and further taken to the Presidential Office Building where President Chen Shui-bian awaited them along with a honour guard and Presidential advisers to comment during the meeting and provide suggestions to the President depending on the direction of talks.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we are a mere ten minutes from touching down in Taipei. Let’s celebrate this journey!" Euphoric cheers permeated the Thai airplane's cabin, a chorus of excitement aimed at the impending arrival in Taipei, Republic of China.

But amid the exuberance, a more solemn note intruded. "Sir Deputy Prime Minister, Mister Det," began Cindy, her voice quelling the merriment. The room's ambiance grew dense, the jubilance replaced by tension. "This isn't a moment of mere festivity. Yes, our arrival in Taipei is significant, and the anticipation of our state visit is palpable. Yet, our dealings with Taiwan demand the gravitas that the situation warrants." His words hinted at a plea for a small concession, a momentary respite.

“Hey…hey.” Det responded, his voice barely more than a whisper, betraying the undercurrent of stress. “Come on…Cindy, we have stayed up all night for the preparation, can’t we have a little joy here before the actual hardship begins?” He pleaded for her understanding, or perhaps, an exception.

She, however, remained unyielding. "It was I who recommended you for the 1999 parliament vote. And as your steadfast assistant, it's my duty to ensure you uphold the standards of your role." Her tone, unwavering and authoritative, spoke of a conviction that could even overshadow the weight of a Deputy Prime Minister's mantle in a globally influential nation.

"Cindy, I truly value your guidance," he began, his voice taking on a playful lilt, its sternness yielding to jest. "Esteemed members of the Thai delegation on this official state visit to Taipei," he paused, casting a mock-proud look around the cabin, then shot Cindy a conspiratorial wink.

"As I was saying, it's an honor to—” BANG! “Ouch! Cindy!” He exclaimed, feigning pain, “Did you really have to wield that briefcase against my back? Granted, I might be the youngest among the six Deputy Prime Ministers, but I'm on the brink of 40!" Laughter erupted in the room, some even egging Cindy on for a repeat performance. "Oh, come on!" He retorted, feigning indignation, a blush tinting his cheeks.

“You people should always keep in mind the gravitas of our meeting today. We literally have to combat with Japan direct challenge on the status quo. And for the record, why is everyone encouraging me to strike him once more?!" Cindy's voice held a hint of exasperation as she adjusted her glasses, an uncharacteristic blush creeping up her cheeks.

"Oh, come now, Ms. Cindy. It's clear you've always found it somewhat... satisfying to keep him in line, no?" A delegate in a sharp black suit bearing the NIA emblem interjected, his attempt at a stern demeanor undercut by a playful glint in his eyes. “You need to keep him in check, especially for someone who has been hired by him 10 years ago to be his personal assistance for his passion for political career.” One man from the delegate team remarked, his black suit with NIA emblem couldn’t seem to radiate its seriousness under the leadership of Deputy Det.

Drawing a deliberate breath, Cindy gathered herself. "We're about to descend, so allow me to offer a final briefing to ensure we're united in purpose. I'd prefer not to be the butt of jokes from the Prime Minister about playing mother hen to this venerable gentleman," she said, casting a pointed glance at Deputy Det.

The room echoed with a unified "Of course," punctuated by a smattering of chuckles, not least from the Deputy himself.

“I hope that we are now all on the same page, please, Deputy Det, could you stop reading that airline magazine for a moment, you should prepare for an official appearance in Taipei.” She adjusted her glasses, her gaze sharp and unwavering as it met his.

“What? I thought you told us earlier that the brief is for us to be on the same page. Aren’t everyone reading the Waterfront Hotel Taipei at the moment?” His reply, a mix of jest and defiance, sent the room into fits of laughter, while some cast amused, sympathetic glances at Cindy.

Drawing a deep breath, she murmured, “I can’t believe our country is relying on this person to navigate the Taipei matter. Why did I got so convinced to recommended him as a Deputy Prime Minister of Mister Thaksin administration.” The weight of her responsibilities felt all too familiar.

“Come one, Cindy.” began Deputy Det with an uncharacteristic earnestness, “I assure you; I've been attentive. I simply observed our team's exhaustion after last night's preparations and believed a brief respite might be beneficial.”

A Foreign Ministry representative, suppressing a chuckle, quipped, “Wow, Deputy Dek, I thought you were an idiot, turned out you have been worrying us all along. Can’t believe a clown has this side, right?” Laughter filled the cabin.

Mustering as much dignity as he could, Deputy Det snapped. “Can’t you just keep your opinion to yourself?! I am your superior by role don’t you know?!?!” His face turned blushing red. “Anyway,” Taking a moment to collect himself, he added. “Our mission here is pivotal. While we're not immediately recognizing Taiwan, we're laying the groundwork, assessing Beijing's response. And we're sending an unmistakable signal: Taipei has the backing of a world power.” The cabin fell silent, every eye on him, a mixture of surprise and newfound respect.

Cindy, ever the master of timing, teased, “You are better at copying my words than I thought,” The room erupted in laughter once more, the mood lightened, as they readied themselves for the task ahead.

As the aircraft's stairway door gracefully swung open, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Det, stepped forth, signaling his arrival to the Taiwanese with a jubilant Wai gesture and wave. His enthusiasm waned mid-descent upon realizing that only a phalanx of guards awaited him, their presence a stark contrast to the expected throng. Subtle nudges from his entourage and security prompted him to continue.

“Whatsoever, Taipei has become really quiet since their isolation, wouldn’t you all think?” He mused in fluent Mandarin to his fellow delegates, who responded with nods of agreement, each adept in the language. Turning to the awaiting guards, he offered, “Thank you for your presence and guidance." With a respectful nod, Det followed their lead towards the convoy.

His tone shifting to one of contemplation, he reverted to his native Thai. "I'm eager to see the outcome of our discussions. But then again," he mused, casting a sidelong glance to his team, "Thaksin, I presume you've orchestrated everything to the last detail?" He smiled, climbing into the awaiting vehicle.

As the delegation arrived they would receive the usual welcome, which for logistical purposes had not taken place at the airport. Once inside the President walked towards the delegation. "Deputy Prime Minister, welcome to China"

Approaching the Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian, the Thai Deputy Prime Minister Det would be visibly pleased even though composed. He would give the Taiwanese President a sincere Wai before offering him a firm handshake.

“Thank you for the hospitality, President Chen.” He beheld at the President; his eyes calm yet imbued with sincerity. As they entered the official meeting, he would take his chance to make an opening speech. He would stand up.

“President Chen Shui-bian and the esteemed representative of the Taiwanese people, I, Det Boon-Long, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, would like to officially start this conference between our two countries on the first state visit of Thailand to the Republic of China.” As he paused, he glanced around the room before fixing his eyes on the President.

“Ever since the collapse of the world order and the United Nation in 1995, Thailand has devoted itself to the principle of democracy, value of human rights, and devoted us to lead the Asian continent. We are privileged and proud to be recognized as one of the three reigning World Power alongside the United Kingdom and the United States.” He smiled, picking up his Thai tea for a sip.

“In 2001, Thailand has confronted with the existential threat from the People’s Republic of China, in which after months long tension, we have successfully confined PRC to its place and its economy has collapsed ever since. Yet, it seems like not only PRC has met with this condition, as the current state of Taiwan is on a precarious as well.” He grinned around the room.

“With in all these in mind, Thailand has a lot to offer to Taiwan. We are interested in the trade and investment agreement between our country, establishing cultural exchange, sending humanitarian aids, and discussing the possibility of mutual defense pact and establishment of military base.” He paused, closing his eyes, putting up his right hand at his chest before continuing.

“To further solidify our relationship, Thailand hopes that Taiwan shares our vision in governance and approach. We believe that we have shared commitment to peace, unity, mutual respect, and sustainable development.” As he concluded, he stopped and sat down.
