Britain Welcomes 1997
To say 1996 hasn't plain sailing would be an understatement. From the bombings of Iraq, the UK';s involvement in fighting Ebola, the tension over Antarctica, the conflict between Belgium and France, the horrors of Zimbabwe and the enormous blaze in Spain. These are some of the events that have kept the world on the edges of their seats as world powers look to find solutions and resolve to the best of their abilities. However, tonight was something different. Millions across the UK had come to stand side by side with their families, their neighbors, their friends, some people they had never even met too. Standing side by side to remember the past, think about the present and look forward to the future. With celebrations taking place throughout the late evening, the countdown was beginning.
Approaching Midnight, streets across the entire country counted down in unison with the clock that would mark the beginning of 1997.
