"Good Evening I'm Peter Mansbridge and this is The National,

We begin with breaking news tonight out of Ireland where there has been a shooting at the Canadian Embassy in Dublin. The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and his wife were at the embassy at the time but was not hurt in the attacks, he is currently evacuating Ireland along with other Canadian Embassy personnel. We cross live to our reporter Nahlah Ayed in London, what more can you tell us?"

"Well Peter, at roughly 2pm, the Prime Minister was sitting down for discussions with the Canadian Ambassador to Ireland when its alleged that 4 men disguishing as plumbers approach the reception on the ground floor of the Embassy and quickly managed to fire off weapons and injuring 2 RCMP officers in the process. According to witnesses the gunmen were out of there within seconds and had sped off in a getaway vehicle. The two injured RCMP officers have been rushed to a hospital in Dublin and reports are that they are in a critical condition. The Prime Minister was soon swiftly removed from the Embassy by his protective detail and taken back to Dublin Airport where its reported that his aircraft is remaining on the tarmac there awaiting further orders. The RCMP have said that the Prime Minister is secure and there is no direct threat to the Prime Minister nor is there anyway to suggest that the motive of this attack was to target the Prime Minister. It's not known who is responsible for the attack but given the re-emerging presence of the IRA here in Ireland, RCMP and Canadian Security Intelligence Service have a clear lead in their investigation. Now the Prime Minister is reportedly making preparations to visit London next, which was supposed to be further down the track for his British Isles trip but has now been moved forward due to this event. Global Affairs is saying its making preparations now to close the Embassy in Dublin due to the security threat, though relations with the Republic of Ireland will remain and so will Canada's consular assistance to Irish citizens. They have also advised Canadian citizens in Ireland that there may be a surge of violence in Ireland due to their tensions with the UK, which was the reason the Prime Minister was there in the first place, and that they should exercise caution and listen to local authorities if an incident like this arises again."

"Thank you, Nahlah."
