Subject: Purchase of Military Materials by New Zealand

Dear Minister Moreau,

I am speaking on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Defence. The New Zealand Government wishes to purchase, from France, 5 EADS CASA C-295M transport aircraft this year and another 5 next; 4 Eurocopter EC725 Caracal helicopters this year, for immediate delivery, and another 8 next; 9 Eurocopter AS550 C3 Fennec helicopters; and in 2005 6 EADS CASA C-295 Persuader MPA aircraft. We also wish to purchase MM40 Block 3 Exocet missiles to equip the RNZN's ANZAC-class frigates, and air-launched AM39 Block 2 missiles and MU90 torpedoes to equip the Persuader anti-submarine aircraft. Furthermore, we wish to purchase anti-tank guided missiles for the Fennec helicopter.

This will be one of the largest aerospace buys in New Zealand's history, and I hope our two nations can continue to grow stronger bonds and ties in the years ahead.
