On the 27th of January, 2005, at the Orewa Rotary Club in northern New Zealand, Don Brash gave his speech announcing the formation of the ‘05 Alliance’, called so because of its formation in 2005 and for the 5 parties or organisations that contributed to it. Those being the National Party, the New Zealand National Front, the New Zealand National Democrats Party, the ACT Party, and New Zealand First Party. The stated goal of the party is to unite for New Zealanders, obviously targeting the signing of the Strategic Partnership between Thailand and New Zealand the month before. Its leaders include Kyle Chapman as President, Don Brash as Leader and new ACT leader Rodney Hide as Deputy Leader. It should be noted, however, that the individual parties still retained their internal structure, but have integrated into the 05 Alliance as a whole.
