Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia የኢትዮጵያ ፌዴራላዊ ዴሞክራሲያዊ ሪፐብሊክ Message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade _________________________________________________________________________ |
Status: Private To: Secretary General of the General Assembly, Mr. Clark Stone Hollie Re: Voluntary accession to the "strategic ordnance prohibition agreement" |
Dear Secretary General Stone, I have the honor to extend to you the highest regards from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and myself, and would like to address a specific interest of our Federal Republic in regard of some of the legal framework created by the General Assembly. As it is public knowledge, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has opted to not be a part of the General Assembly and its subsidiary organizations and institutions. This has not to be interpreted as a disregard to international law and diplomacy from our nation, but rather as the interest to not be subject to potential foreign interests that might affect our economic development program. As proof of this, and after profoundly reviewing the General Assembly's normative framework, we have decided to look into the possibility of voluntarily adhering to the Strategic Ordnance Prohibition Agreement, submitting to its provisions and stipulations, mantaining our status as a non-GA member nation. Therefore, we would like to present a formal request to the GA to consider this petition. Respectfully, Demeke Mekonnen Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Addis Ababa |
