Cardamom Mountains and its jungles.

Following private discussions between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Rattanakosin Kingdom, a joint-exercise to conduct training for jungle warfare and mountain warfare was planned to take place in Rattanakosin. The Royal Rattanakosin Armed Forces and their leaders have decided that the Cardamom Mountains near the border of Cambodia would be the best location for such an exercise as these mountains are surrounded by jungle, in other words, allowing the two armed forces to knock two birds with one stone. The area of the mountains that the exercise would be conducted would be the Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park - which would be closed to all non-military personnel while the exercise would be taking place.

The Rattanakosin Kingdom would notify the German forces that while Rattanakosin artillery formations would be in the deployed personnel, the use of artillery in the exercise was optional. They would also be notified that the Royal Rattanakosin Armed Forces have various armored and unarmored vehicles in reserves should the German troops need them. If needed, the air force could also send various transport planes to help transport German troops and equipment to and from the Kingdom.

Lastly, Germany would be notified that the Kingdom has payed the full 100,000,000.00$ price for the exercise and would ask that the German half be transferred as soon as possible to cover costs. Vaka

The 101st Reconnaissance Battalion and 101st Mechanized Infantry Battalion would be brought to Port of Hamburg, Germany with all required Equipment and Vehicles needed for Exercise Golden Crown. The 101st Mechanized Infantry Battalion would be deployed dismounted as an Infantry Battalion. They would then all be loaded onto 3 Point Class Roll On/Off Transport vessels for the 5 day Ocean voyage to Bangkok. The three vessels would use the Transit Path JO-IO-IN-IM-JM-KM-KL-KK-LK-MK-MJ-NJ-OJ-OK. During the Journey the embarked forces would have classroom training classes about Jungle and mountain warfare. They would also be given refresher courses on maintenance and repair for the embarked Vehicles. The quarters would be very cramped as these vessels were normally used for transporting vehicles and cargo not personnel. The 101st Mechanized Infantry Battalion would be given special courses on dismounted combat as they would not have the luxury of their M93 Fox APCs. The journey would be long and not at all pleasant but not nearly as unforgiving as the Cardamom Mountains. These men has been told about the difficult conditions they would be seeing during the exercise but nothing could truly prepare them for the jungles has in store.

The journey was long and thankfully uneventful. The 101st Reconnaissance Battalion and 101st Mechanized Infantry Battalion arrived in the port of Bangkok early in the the morning slightly behind schedule. A few days behind schedule to be more precise. It was clear that the Point Class ships were not ideal for moving large numbers of troops almost halfway around the world. They were perfect for transporting the vehicles and cargo however. The embarked soldiers eagerly waited the chance to stretch their legs on shore.

The offloading of equipment took the better part of the rest of the day. The 101st Reconnaissance Battalion and 101st Mechanized Infantry Battalion prepared for the next trip of their journey. Thankfully this part of the trip would be over land. They waited for the Rattanakosin transport to take them to fabled Cardamom Mountains and its Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park where the exercise was to be taking place. While they waited they received word that the journey home for the soldiers would not be back aboard the Point class vessels but in Transall C-160D Transport Aircraft. The men and women all cheered at the news!
