Government of the Republic of Türkiye

The Government of Türkiye (Turkish: Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Hükûmeti) is the executive branch of the Republic of Türkiye under the parliamentary system. It consists of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers, and ministers heading the various ministries. The Council of Ministers (Cabinet) is the main executive body, operating under the leadership of the Prime Minister.

The President of Türkiye, while serving as the head of state, holds largely ceremonial powers with limited executive authority. The President appoints the Prime Minister, who is usually the leader of the majority party or coalition in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM), and formally approves the Cabinet.

The Government of Türkiye is responsible for:

  • Drafting and submitting the central government budget to the Grand National Assembly, ensuring its implementation, and reporting on its execution;
  • Implementing financial, credit, and monetary policy in accordance with national objectives;
  • Executing state policy in areas such as education, science, culture, health, social security, and environmental protection;
  • Managing public and state-owned property;
  • Developing and implementing policies concerning national defense, public security, and foreign affairs in coordination with the President and the Assembly;
  • Ensuring the enforcement of laws, safeguarding fundamental rights and freedoms, maintaining public order, and combating crime;
  • Exercising all other powers granted by the 1982 Constitution of Türkiye, statutory laws, and regulations.

The Government is accountable to the National Assembly and must maintain the confidence of the legislature to remain in power. It is primarily responsible for implementing both domestic and foreign policy within the framework of laws passed by the Assembly.
