Over 200 Soldiers have begun their journey to Salisbury Plain to engage in a two-company strong exercise that will see a combination of Live Fire Training with Defender aircraft providing intelligence. An invitation has been sent to the Netherlands to inquire as to whether they'd be interested in participating; the exercise will focus on:
  • Long-winded Patrols
  • Utilising Vehicles for Assaults and Defence.
  • Movement based on aircraft intelligence.
If the Dutch are wishing to participate, it was requested they send their forces by the new week (Monday) for Salisbury Plain. They will be training with one of the units deployed to the Netherlands during the Civil War. @Dutchy

The Ministry of Defence of the Kingdom of the Netherlands would be pleased by the British invitation to participate in the exercise. Units from the 44 Pantserinfantriebataljon of the 43 Gemechaniseerde Brigade would be chosen to be deployed for the training.

300 troops along with 30 CV-90 Infantry Fighting Vehicles would be deployed from Trip van Zoudtlandtkazerne, Breda. Royal Netherlands Air Force Lockheed C-5 Galaxy strategic transport aircraft would be used to transport both personnel and material to the Royal Air Force Base closest to the Salisbury Plain. All personnel and equipment would rendezvous at Eindhoven Air Base where the planes would be fully fueled and supplied before the boarding began. Due to the large amount of equipment requiring transport multiple flights had been scheduled with both Dutch and British Air Traffic Control.

Once airborne the flight would follow the JO > IO remaining either in neutral or allied airspace as they made the journey. Upon arrival in Britain the aircraft would be unloaded, the planes would be checked by the crew before being refuelled and resupplied for the return journey to the Netherlands following the same route.

After the multiple flights had been completed and all personnel and equipment were present at the Salisbury Plain, Major Bernhard Meeuwessen would report to the British exercise commander.

The decision to accept the exercise request was a welcome one, especially for those of the Yorkshire Regiment who had experienced deployment in the Netherlands during the Dutch Civil War, although now in recent history, it was something the regiment considered a partnership with the Dutch as something happy to engage in. The Royal Netherlands Air Force was given access through the usual Air Traffic Control channels, but was requested to land at RAF Fairford due to the size of the aircraft been deployed. Ensuring no cross over took place between Exercise Tracking and Exercise Dropship which were both happening. At Fairford, an RAF Ground Crew were ready to support the Dutch with unloading the aircraft, informing and introducing the Dutch Commander to a Lieutenant with the British Army Logistics Unit which had come down to Fairford to assist in moving the Dutch CV-90s. Due to the distance, to reduce the chance of damaging British Roads but also to conserve fuel, 30 British Army Heavy Transport Vehicles had come down to transport the fighting vehicles to Salisbury Plain. For health and safety reasons, publicly-contracted Coachs had also been hired to transport the Dutch soldiers to the training ground.

The trip from Fairford to Salisbury Plain was only an hour and a half, slightly longer due to the speed that the convoy maintained due to the cargo, and civilian escort vehicles around the convoy. The Dutch forces were delivered to an open area in Salisbury Plain where 20 British Army Bulldog Vehicles had already congregated in a line across the field; tents set up by crews from the side of the vehicles which will be used to spend the night in. The exercise considered an 'all hands on' experience, and possibly the last time the bulldog will be used in such a large scale environment since the governments intention to replace it in the upcoming years. The Dutch were then given chance to unload, set up their vehicles and tents for the night and generally get together with the British Forces to integrate.. something the British were eager to do.

Briefings were to begin the next morning..

The Dutch units would relax in their assigned barracks after arriving, while the engineers and mechanics went over the various pieces of equipment which had been transported with them.

The Dutch officers and Non-commissioned officers tasked with leading the various units assigned to the exercise would meet the next day with the British military forces leading the exercise. Each would salute the leading British officers and mingle with their fellow officers. With both nations being ISAF members the atmosphere seemed positive with the Dutch having pleasant conversations with their British counterparts.

Once the briefing was to begin all would move to their places and become serious as they knew the preparation was just as important as execution.

The combined arsenel of British Bulldog APCs and Dutch CV-90s had been compiled together for roughly a week, British and Dutch soldiers spending time together and generally learning to cooperate. Time spent assessing each others equipment and vehicles. Briefings then begun of the more senior members of both forces who could relay it down the chain of command.

"I'd like to begin by welcoming our Dutch Counterparts to Exercise Tracking.."

There was a short pause, a 'map' made up in front of the briefing using materials from the surrounding areas. Sticks and stones marking points across Salisbury Plain, nearby mock villages that'd be used for the exercise. He explained the situation:

"The fictional country of Ostrain has opted to expand its territorial borders and has carried out an invasion of it's neighbor, Ochil. The Ostrain Armed Forces have managed to push ahead and ceased the towns of:

Tarnstead (Closest to the Battlegroup)
Hillfar
Shipton
Romsey (Furthest away)

Ochil has requested ISAF pushes into these towns and takes control back, forcing Ostraiain Forces back. Intelligence suggests they have limited armoured support but have hefty defences set up to counter any response. Our objective is to move in and take back control.

The closest town is Tarnstead; 9miles north from here. It'd probably be the best starting point but the moment we do that, the opposing force will know of our intention. How would you suggest we move forward?"
