REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA

PRIVATE AND CLASSIFIED

Recipient: Dr. Andrew Theophanous, MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Commonwealth of Australia

I would like to extend a hand of friendship to the Commonwealth of Australia by inviting you to Jakarta to visit myself on behalf of your Prime Minister to open relations between our two countries as we see Australia as an important neighbour in the region and we want to reassure that their is no tension between our two countries after our recent altercation near your airspace. I would like to discuss mutual defence, trade and a range of other issues important to our region. Please let me know if you or any other member of your government can attend.

Dr. Theophanous would be quite surprised... such a message would never be sent to him from such a higher up in a foreign power. He was quite confused and thought it was accidentally sent to him. He would forward it to the Minister for Foreign Affairs. She would look at it and determine the Minister for Trade, Senator Bob McMullan and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Arch Bevis MP shall attend. She would send apologies on behalf of the Minister for Defence who was needed in Canberra due to the current conflict in Iraq and the tensions in Antarctica.

The Trade Minister and the Parliamentary Secretary would board a RAAF Dassault Falcon 900 from No. 34 Squadron based at RAAF Base Fairbairn in Canberra along with their staff. It would take off and head towards Jakarta. A series of cars would be organised by the Australian Embassy in Jakarta for their arrival and the Ambassador would meet them on the ground at the airport.

The Indonesian National Police quickly deployed upon Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport with multiple officers locking down the arrivals terminal with a temporary flight restriction put in place with no planes departing or arriving, aircraft already in the air would either hold safely over Jakarta or would divert to Soekarno–Hatta International Airport which also served Jakarta. Officers swiped the terminal to make sure that nothing could harm the incoming delegation and declared the terminal safe for the arrival of the Australian party.

A motorcade had been prepared for transporting the party to the meeting location with a multitude of armoured vehicles providing a safe and comfortable journey.

The Dassault Falcon 900 would touch down in Jakarta. The Trade Minister and the Parliamentary Secretary would walk out on the stairwell. Once on the ground they would shake hands with the Australian Ambassador and would proceed into the cars provided by the Australian Embassy. They would be driven to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Upon arriving they would get out, greeted by the Indonesian Minister. They would go to shake his hand.

"Mr. Marsudi, pleasure to meet you." The Trade Minister would shake his hand.

The Parliamentary Secretary would then shake his hand.

"Also a pleasure to meet you."

The Australian politicans would be guided into the building which was fully air conditioned to cope with the piping hot Indonesian climate which was currently being felt. They made their way through the building, taking a few sets of stairs and a walk through the numerous corridors.

"Welcome to Jakarta, I hope your trip over from Australia was good?" The Minister of Foreign Affairs enquired.

They would be led into an office which was prepared beforehand, a selection of hot and cold drinks alongside local snacks had been laid out for the meeting.

"Please, help yourself."

With the ongoing military coup in place, the meeting was postponed as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building was stormed by Indonesian Special Forces and the Minister of Foreign Affairs was detained - the Australian delegation was detained and placed into army vehicles where they would be escorted back to the airport and placed onto the Royal Australian Air Force jet they came to Indonesia on which was ordered to take off or risk being grounded with the entire delegation under arrest.

"What the hell is going on!" The Australian delegation would go peacefully back into the Embassy car. It would drive them back to the airport and they would board the Dassault Falcon 900, getting out of there as quickly as possible. The Australian Embassy would now remain on high alert, the Ambassador would return to the Embassy. Australian's in Indonesia, particularly holidaymakers in Bali would receive a travel alert from the Australian Government regarding the coup. They would be advised to leave Indonesia as soon as possible.
