It describes itself as "Iran's leading independent news agency", though it is widely described by foreign news media to be a "semi-official" news agency for the Monarchy and Government of Iran, as all of its content (Aside from live content) is currently preapproved by the Ministry of Information of the Imperial State of Iran before being distributed to the public. Within Iran, the Fars News Agency competes with the state-owned Imperial Iranian News Network as Iran's highest rated news organization. Additionally the Fars News Agency broadcasts internationally, being hosted on satellite television networks and having a large broadcast and print presence on the internet. ​
