"Dear Mr Ikeda,

Thank you for contacting me in regards to setting up bilateral relations between our two countries, however, I am a bit confused as your E-mail was sent to a "John Kerry". The only John Kerry I am aware of, is the Senator from Massachusetts. I am sure this was just a mistake and it is no cause for concern. I am Strobe Talbott, the Deputy Secretary of State for the United States - your E-mail was forwarded to me since Senator Perry is out of the country right now. Moving on, I would be happy to meet with Mr. Nakagawa at his earliest convenience. Please let him know to informed me of his pending arrival so I can make arrangements.

Regards,
Strobe Talbott,
Deputy Secretary of State for the United States of America."

Dear Mr. Deputy Secretary,

We apologize for our mistake, we were provided conflicting information. The information listed on this site indicated Mr. Kerry as the current Secretary of State, however we are also aware of Secretary of State Christopher holding the position as well. We have corrected the error in our records and renew our apology.

Yours Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Deputy Secretary,

It is an honor to finally make this connection between our governments. I believe my secretary has passed along my itinerary, in the event it was not sent, I will be arriving within the next two hours to your office. I look forward to meeting with you.

Yours Sincerely,

中川秀直

Hidenao Nakagawa
Ambassador to the United States

Hidenao was dressed cleanly and professionally. Sharp black suit, sharp black tie, and shoes to match. It was almost the uniform of Japanese diplomats now. The new LDP government ordered professional attire without ostentatious appearances or accessories. He made his way to the embassy in the car that the embassy currently rented for these purposes. Funds had yet to be allocated to the embassies to purchase unnecessary luxuries. With him was a legal pad, bound in leather bearing the seal of the government of Japan. Written within were several questions, proposals, charts, data, and a list of goals the government wished to accomplish. He walked calmly and confidently to Talbott's office and waited to be called inside.[/hr]

At the Harry S Truman Building, once the Japanese Ambassador had cleared security. Deputy Secretary Talbott would be stood in the foyer waiting for the man. As soon as he came within sight, he strode over to him, extending his hand and offering a small bow at the same time. "Evening, Mister Ambassador"

Hidenao bowed to the American and then put out his hand for a firm shake. He smiled and thanked the American greeting him, "Thank you Deputy Secretary Talbott. It is an honor to be received by you and the United States. My government has been most eager to reestablish contact with the United States. Our people's have had such deep and historic ties for the past five decades that our new government would be remiss if we did not attempt to continue that. We hope to discuss trade, defensive relations, and deeper bilateral relationships between our peoples. We hope that your government feels the same. If there are any reservations, I hope that I can help smooth them over."

"I am glad your government reached out to me and I hope that we can reach agreements regarding trade and other points we may have for the meeting." The Deputy stepped to the side, before holding an arm out to point to his office. "If you'd like to come with me, my office is just down this hallway"

Hidenao thanked the American, “Yes, please. Let us go to your office. We have much to discuss. Hidenao followed the American to his office and would sit wherever he was directed to. Once seated, Hideno opened his briefcase and withdrew several papers containing issues from the defense department, his own department of foreign affairs; as well as the ministry of finance. Among the papers was the request sent to the US Department of Defense about procurement requests.

Entering the office, The Deputy motioned to a plush leather seat for the ambassador to sit on, whilst he sat on one that was opposite it. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

After they had entered the office, Hidenao took the seat offered, "thank you" he said genuinely. "I will have some water if you have it." Hidenao looked at the floor for a moment, contemplating his words before speaking. "I wish to humbly express the condolences of the Japanese government for the attacks on American soil. Know that Japan stands with the world for peace and security. We are happy to assist in any way we can." Given the events that recently transpired, Hidenao felt he could not leave them unaddressed. Plus, they hurt Japan's vision for a peaceful world, open to trade and growth.
