A rain stricken night Copenhagen night had set in for Politibetjent (Police Constable) Dahl at the start of her shift. Sipping on a to go takeaway coffee she took her seat in the meeting room of Copenhagen central station. To the rear of the room were a number of plain clothes officers, likely from the gang unit of the Criminal Investigation Department. Dressing in civis, their only distinctive feature were their police belts and police vests. Sat in the chairs were a number of patrol officers, brought in on overtime with constable Dahl for the yet to be disclosed meeting. At the head of the room the Stations Inspector conversed with his opposite number from the Gang Unit. A intense disagreement seemed to be taking place. The disagreement went on for some time before some form of agreement was reached, the Gang Unit inspector Nielson turned to his the room. A worn looking man clearly a long server in the force, the man spoke with authority and directness;
"We have asked you here today for a raid on a known criminal contact, Aadil al-Sattar. This individual is wanted in connection with an attempted murder in a drive by shooting last Wednesday in Copenhagen. We know he has connections to a immigrant gang working in the Central area. We believe he works as a connecting figure between the gang's leadership and it's soldiers. We have reason to believe Aadil will be attempting to flee into Germany from Copenhagen in the next few hours, our intelligence team at the flat saw him enter, but not yet leave. The Special Intervention Unit will meet us at the property and force entry into the property. You are to observe and monitor the situation, and assist with a cordon once the unit are inside. We move out in 5 minutes, normal response to the property"
5 minutes later, the officers were moving through Denmark in 4 unmarked police vehicles. In the backseat of the lead car, PC Dahl prepared herself for a possible conflict with the beast of Copenhagen's underworld.
The convoy swung into a parking space in the adjoining street to the suspect. From her seat, PC Dahl could make out a visual on the suspect's front door through the hedges. Inspector Nielson was in the front seat, his binoculars fixed on the suspects door. The radio on his shoulder quickly stuttered to life.
"Recon Team to Bronze over"
"Bronze to Recon send over"
"We have movement inside the property, doors opening"
Dahl could make out the shadowy appearance of a individual leaving the front door. With his face obscured with his hood, the man quickly locked his front door before rushing to his car. As he entered his Mercedes, his face momentarily turned into the visual of Inspector Nielsons binoculars
"Shit it's the Target." Inspector Nielson yelled before switching over to his radio "Silver I need a ETA on SIU, Package is on the move."
"SIU have been diverted, eta unknown at present" The radio buzzed back "Silver commander advises you to track only. "
The suspect's car begun to move towards the awaiting police vehicles. Turning left, the police cars follow behind the suspect.
"Ah fucking hell he'd be onto us if we follow him now and he'll be gone if we wait.." Inspector Nielson reached down for his handgun withdrawing it from it's holster. "All units, box the suspect.. Go go go"
The vehicles speed up, their lights activating as the lead car of Dahl swung round to the front of the vehicle. Her training kicked meaning Dahl quickly withdrew her firearm. As the vehicles screeched to a halt, Dahl rolled down her window, her pistol pointed directly at the chest of the suspect. The remaining vehicles blocked in the vehicle, one to the side, one behind and one would swing onto the pavement to the side of the rear police car. Inspector Nielson withdrew to the side police car, out of the way of the crossfire.
"Rigspolitiet! Rigspolitiet! Out of the car now! Show us your hands!"
The Suspects vehicle remained stationary, Dahl could see the outline of the suspect stationary inside the drivers seat
"Aadil! Out of the car now! Hands where we can see them"
The Mercedes door swung open, the driver stepped out into the darkness, his hood remained above his head.
"Hands up now!" Inspector Nielson bellowed, the flashlight from his pistol lighting up the suspects face,
"What the fuck is this shit? I didn't do nuthing!" Aadil would exclaim, backing away from the officers towards the pavement "You lot are fucking tripping"
Dahl swung open her car door, she moved to the rear of the car as Aadil begun to walk towards the front of the first police car.
"Stop where you are or your going to be shot! Stop moving!" Nielson yells at the suspect before turning to his radio "Control, I need urgent dog unit support, suspect non compliant"
Aadil stopped for a moment and looked around the street at the sea of blue lights and officers.
"You guys are fucking stalkers, just because I'm an immigrant" Aadil says as his hands dropped towards his waist line "Fucking pathetic, look at this"
Aadil begins to run towards PC Dahl, his hands still moved about in his hoody.
"STOP STOP NOW!" PC Dahl yells, as the suspect begun to raise his hands from his waistband "STOOOOPPPP"
A ringing sound filled Dahls ears as she squeezed onto the trigger. The flash of her muzzle temporarily light up the suspects face as he staggered forward. The change in pace allowed Inspector Nielson to close in and punch down the suspect onto the street.
"SHOTS Fired, we need ambulance down her ASAP" Nielson's voice broke as he pulls Dahl back towards him "Are you okay did he hurt you?".
Dahl struggled to hear him with the ringing but managed a small shake of the head. In the distance, the night sky of Copenhagen turned blue as dozens of units begun racing towards the scene. Other officers rush forward with defibrillators and begin immediate CPR.
By the time that Doctor Oliver Bisgaard had arrived in the Critical Care car, two ambulance crews had already begun to resuscitate the patient. Using his expertise skills, Dr Oliver set up his advanced airway bag at the head of the patient, while his Advanced Paramedic colleague set up the remaining equipment at the patients side.
"Okay lets recap our Hs and Ts , Hypoxia... Airway is currently secured by a endotracheal tube, Patient is being ventilated by BVM, Saturations remain stable at 94% on 100%. I feel we can rule this out. Hypovolemia, we have a single GSW to the Abdomen, this is a likely cause.. hypokalemia is unlikely, but we will give hartman's fluid rather than sodium chloride in case. Lets give an emergency blood transfusion and stat fluids.. hypothermia and hypoglycemia are unlikely. Similarly, I feel we can rule out Toxins and Thrombosis.. Tamponade is possible but unlikely given the mechanism of entry.. lets do a quick ECHO... Nothing? We can rule out that.. Tension Pneumothorax is unlikely, there's no hyperresonance and ECG is normal. This is more likely to be a Trauma related arrest given the patient is in PEA. What is our downtime?"
"Patient has been down for 10 minutes at present, has remained in PEA throughout".
Dr Oliver continued to bag as emergency blood and fluids were given. On the monitor, the patient remained in PEA, CPR would be taken over by a lucas device, a portable and brutal CPR machine able to deliver more accurate CPR. "This guy has definitely got an abdominal bleed somewhere. Keep pressure on the wound, I think it's hit an artery. Can someone feel his abdoman please?"
"Distended, what you want to do doc?"
CPR continued for a further 5 minutes. adrenaline, Vasopressers, a further 1L of fluid and 2 bags of blood were given in quick succession. A paramedic checked the pulse again during a rhythm check "We've got a weak pulse, we've got a weak pulse!"
Oliver inserted a A CVP line inserted which immediately showed a BP of 60/20. A quick logroll revealed no exit wound to the patient's back.
"His BP is shit, I think we need to just go as fast as we can to the nearest hospital, He's still periarrest and he needs a urgent laparotomy" Oliver looked once more at the patient, pale and almost lifeless, it was unlikely to be a good outcome. "Get a stretcher lets go!"
The patient was quickly loaded onto the ambulance for the quick 7 minute drive to the nearest hospital. A pre alert was given, and the patient wheeled straight into resus with the trauma team ready and waiting. The patient would proceed to once more enter cardiac arrest before they could even get off the ambulance. Oliver leaved the room to have a break in the departments staff room as he left he walked past resus, hearing one last part of the conversation as he departs "Is everyone in agreement? Yes? Time of Death.. 00:20.. rest in peace"
Dr Oliver left to continue his patrol, meanwhile Forensics had arrived at the scene of crime to begin their investigations. The officers involved were immediately questioned, and PC Dahl's weapon and uniform removed for testing.
