Art and stories inform us on a society's values and ideals. In turn, these aspects of culture help us better understand a country's politics and people. History is just as important as it gives context to the current socio-political climate. The Republic of Ukraine has an interest in forming successful international-relations, and mutual-understanding increases the successfulness of communications and ties. Therefore, cultural development and historical preservation--the missions of the Ukrainian Ministry of Arts and Culture--are paramount. Our efforts focus primarily on Ukrainian culture. However, considering the history of genocide in Eastern Europe, we recognize the need to preserve and educate the public on non-Ukrainian cultures as well.
Ihor Kalynets,
Minister of Arts and Culture
