[1] OVERVIEW

[1a] The Royal Netherlands Air Force has been deployed to the Kingdom of Norway in order to support the Royal Norwegian Air Force in the protection of their airspace and enforcement of their laws within their airspace.​

[1b] OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVES​

1. To intercept aircraft in Norwegian airspace that are distressed or hostile to Norway.
2. To perform occasional patrols in Norwegian airspace as needed
3. To scramble and standby if a general alert is issued to His Majesty's Armed Forces.​

Majoor Joris van Wegberg, commanding officer of the A Wing of the 121st Multirole Fighter Squadron, received the classified operational directive from Commander of the Air Force Lieutenant General Bart Krusen. After reading through the operation he notified his men to convene, where the pilots would be briefed on their upcoming tour of duty to Norway.

The Air Wing after being fully fueled would take off from Leeuwarden Air Base, after reaching a cruising altitude of 10,000 km and traveling at a speed of 1200 km/h the wing proceeded to take route JQ > JP to reach Orland Main Air Station. Nearing Norwegian air space the Wing leader would contact Norwegian ATC, "Norwegian ACC, this is Alpha-One. Requesting permission to enter airspace and directions to Orland Main Air Station."

The reserve pilots and technicians of A Wing would be placed on a KLM flight from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Oslo Airport. The Norwegian Ministry of Defence would be privately informed of their expected arrival to Norway.

The Norwegian military air traffic control guided the Dutch jets through Norwegian airspace until they were very close to the base. "Alpha-One, maintain current heading for one mile. You are all clear to land. Welcome to Norway," the Air Traffic Controller said. The Ministry of Defense was kept up to date on the on-goings of the Dutch operation, including updates every thirty minutes until all of the Dutch aircraft had landed. The General of The Air Force was at the airbase along with Norwegian pilots, base security, and other standard personnel. Meanwhile, the Dutch technicians that were flown in to Oslo's international airport were brought via low-detail rented vehicles. Every other driver was actually a special agent with Kripos, but the technicians wouldn't be able to tell. If anything else, this would prove to be a simple training mission for the agents who were able to drive the Dutchmen through the beautiful Norwegian landscape. Each of them, including the pilots, had their information taken down. The Wing Leader was welcomed to the base by General Dan Jasper, who offered for him to join he and a number of other Norwegian Air Force officers for supper that evening.

The Dutch were provided with whatever they needed, including housing, food, water, legal entertainment, as well as papers to identify that they were in the Kingdom of Norway legally, should they need to leave the base. They were advised not to leave the base without a Norwegian "buddy" but were ultimately free to do as they wished when not mobilized or on a mission. Luckily, with everyone being able to speak English, there wasn't much of a language barrier besides the writing throughout the base and in the nearby towns.

The Air Wing would safely land at Orland Main Air Station after following the directions provided by Norwegian Air Traffic Control. Once all had landed the flight leader contacted ATC, "Norwegian AAC, thank you for the directions, Alpha flight signing off, over." The aircraft proceeded to taxi to their assigned stands before initiating shutdown procedure. Upon arrival of the Dutch technicians the aircraft would be handed over to their supervision. All the aircraft would be given a maintenance inspection and prepared for upcoming operations.

The Wing Leader Majoor Joris van Wegberg changed into his dress uniform prior to his appointment with General Jasper. The Major would salute the General upon meeting his now superior officer and introduce himself, "General, Major Joris van Wegberg reporting for duty."

The Ministry of Defense successfully saw the creation of military aircraft for the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Also, the Air Force already had hundreds of pilots ready and trained to fly. General Dan Jasper later invited Majoor Joris van Wegberg for a meeting where he explained that the Royal Norwegian Air Force was now armed - albeit not enough. Because Norway was no longer defenseless, the presence of foreign armed aircraft in the kingdom was no longer necessary. Essentially, he told the Dutch Major that by next Sunday, the Dutch could return home. More formally, the Norwegian government securely informed the Dutch government of this as well. Thanks and gratitude was expressed for providing defense to the Kingdom of Norway during a period of weakness. Before returning back to The Netherlands, General Jasper invited Major Wegberg and his officers out for a formal dinner along with some of the Norwegian officers they served along side with at Orland Main Air Station. After that, the Dutch were brought to Oslo's International Airport and flown home, for free, just as they had arrived. The Dutch pilots and their jets were safely guided out of Norwegian Air Space and were able to return home to Norway without hindrance.

With the successful completion of the operation and after the conclusion of the formal dinner held for officers all units assigned to the operation would return to their bases. A Wing of the 121st Multirole Fighter Squadron after refuelling would return to Leeuwarden Air Base while all secondary personnel would be driven to the base after landing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

The operation, while uneventful, would be considered as success and a step in the right direction for further military cooperation between Norway and the Netherlands.
