[Norway] Conference call with British and Dutch Foreign Ministers

Jakob Vinter, Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, picked up the phone in his office in Oslo and made a secure and encrypted phone call to both Leopold Albronda, Foreign Minister of The Netherlands, and Christopher Norris, Foreign Minister of The United Kingdom. If they, or some senior colleague, joined the call, Jakob would begin to speak.

"Good evening, gentlemen. Thank you for taking my call. I have a bit of worrying news to tell you both. Kripos, our national investigative service, has come across undeniable proof that the People's Republic of China has directly - through their ambassador in Oslo - attempted to interfere in our recent parliamentary election. As Norway's closest political and economic partners, His Majesty's government hopes that your governments will consider publicly condemning the Chinese for this infringement on Norwegian sovereignty. The Ministry of Justice, the Prime Minister, and His Majesty are all taking this situation very seriously. There will be a press conference this afternoon in Oslo. I will have the Minister of Justice send over a copy of the evidence we have for this to both of your ministries."

The message from the Chinese ambassador to the Red Party was copied and sent to the Ministers electronically and in an encrypted manner, as promised.

Due to Minister of Foreign Affairs Leopold Albronda being preoccupied, the call would be forwarded to Secretary of State for European Affairs Arnie Donaldson. He'd ensure the call was both encrypted and secure before picking up, "Hello, Secretary of State for European Affairs Arnie Donaldson speaking. I'm afraid the Minister of Foreign Affairs is currently unable to partake in this call."

"This news is rather worrying, if China is attempting to destabalise Europe through supporting communist groupings action must be taken. I would like to discuss this with at the upcoming meeting with the Council of Ministers before we take any action."

 

[Odinson]

"As far as I'm aware, this attempt was only made with the Red Party in Norway, however I would advise both of you to inform your intelligence services. Thank you, Secretary Donaldson. I believe it would send a strong message if Norway, The Netherlands, and Britain condemned the interference of a communist dictatorship in the free elections of a democratic European nation."

He now awaited the response from the British representative as he looked over a handful of documents from Kripos and one from the Office of The King.

The British Foreign Secretary answered the call from his private office, ensuring his line was both private and encrypted; apologising for his absence and getting taught up to date on what had already been discussed.
"This revelation is of grave concern, if this has been done once, we must assume this is something Chinese authorities have attempted previously, or even attempted on other countries. That leads us to be unsure of whether, if any, influence that China has across Europe. However..." there was a small pause. "Publicly condemning it could cause issues if parties in Europe have already had Chinese involvement, perhaps we should look to methods to find out to the extend of Chinese interference through our combined intelligence services? Of course publicly condemning it is one thing, but perhaps we could use their email to learn more by replying to it, having our intelligence services work together to find out China's intentions and plans."

"The Council of State has decided to end diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. There is nothing I can do to keep that from becoming public, unfortunately. I will continue to keep the two of you updated, but I wanted to ensure that Britain and The Netherlands were informed about what has happened. I am very worried with how Asian nations have tried to become more active in European affairs recently. Thank you for taking this call on such short notice, I will make sure to keep both of your governments updated." If there was nothing else to be said, the phone call was ended.
