SUBJECT: Small Navy Exercise
RECIPIENT: Peter Hultqvist, Secretary of Defense of The Kingdom of Sweden (@Connor )
SECURITY: ENCRYPTED

Secretary Hultqvist,

The Chief of Defense has expressed interest to me about having one of our destroyers and a Swedish Royal Navy vessel conducting some kind of exercise in the North Sea or the Atlantic. From what he's told me, it would be a minor operation. If it's alright with you, I'd be fine with just letting the Chief of Defense and the Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces coordinating this operation with each other directly. Please let me know what you think.

Very Respectfully,

Kristoffer Solberg
Minister of Defense

Dear Kristoffer Solberg,

I am gladly the recipient of your correspondence and excited at the prospect of a naval exercise with the Kingdom of Norway.

I am more than happy to have this managed by the Chief of Defense and the Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces, this was briefly mentioned to me this evening and sounded encouraging for future cooperation with Norway. It's definitely important that we begin to intertwine our Armed Forces to work together rather than as separate entities.

Please keep me updated with any developments,

Peter Hultqvist
Secretary of Defence
Kingdom of Sweden

SUBJECT: Exercise "Close Call"
SENDER: Admiral Agnar Thorsen, Chief of Defense of The Norwegian Armed Forces
RECIPIENT: Micael Bydén, Supreme Commander of The Swedish Armed Forces (@Connor )

Supreme Commander Bydén,

The Minister of Defense has permitted me to message you about a military operation between the Royal Navies of Norway and Sweden. I have
spoken with various individuals about this operation, and I believe that it would be of benefit to both of our countries to start small with an operation such as this. Essentially, the plan would be to sail a Norwegian destroyer and Swedish vessel of your choice through the English Channel. We would then simulate "man overboard" exercises in the Celtic Sea, among other things. It would be a good opportunity to have our sailors work together out in the open sea. My office has chosen to following route for our ships to take (route included as an attachment). During transit, they would of course be sailing together. The same route would of course be taken back. Please let me know if you are interested in this operation.

Dear Agnar Thorsen,

I have been contacted this evening by King Carl XVI Gustaf and the Swedish Secretary of Defence Peter Hultqvist who both appear to have conflicting views on how this exercise is going to look. Your correspondence reaches me just in time as I begin to write up what will formally be known in Sweden as Exercise Azurite, an alias for the highly classified Operation Astatine. As part of this mission I have been instructed to ensure the deployment of a Swedish Royal Navy Frigate and a Swedish Air Force spy plane which will deploy to the now Republic of Belgium on a fact-finding mission of sorts. Your images have reached me in great quality and detail; I am eager for our forces to intertwine and cooperate in training exercises throughout the voyage in-which we will undoubtedly see the historic relationship of Norway and Sweden flourish.

I am told you are aware of the circumstances this exercise came from and the highly classified nature of its origin, I am devoted to ensuring that it remains this way. In terms of beginning this arrangement, I will finish drafting the operational directive and forward this to you for your own arrangements.

Regards,
Micael Bydén
Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces
Department of Defence

Supreme Commander Bydén,

I am happy to hear that you already had a similar operation planned. I will of course keep that between us. I have also had discussions with some higher-ups of the government. I have taken all means possibly to ensure that this operation is of course legal on the Norwegian side - I hope that you can do the same. This exercise, in my opinion, will make a good cover for your operation which we are more than happy to help with. I've been given some breathing room by the Ministry of Defense. If your aircraft need a place to land in Norway, they of course can utilize any of our Royal Air Force stations in the kingdom. For our ships, I believe a rendezvous point of: 57.734489, 8.513217. This is just north of the Danish coast. We will be deploying a Spruance-class Destroyer, the KMS Leif Erikson.

Very Respectfully,

Agnar Thorsen
Chief of Defense
