Norwegian Army hosts newly appointed Prime Minister
The newly appointed Jens Stoltenberg was already busy on his first full day as Prime Minister of Norway as he hosted a call between himself and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea as the two political leaders reaffirmed their willingness to work in areas such as trade, energy and defence. Shortly after, the Prime Minister was visiting Norwegian Army personnel at Rena Garrison which rests north of Oslo where he was shown around the base and met with various personnel and watched different activities and committed to ensuring that investment in infrastructure and equipment was going to happen under the new government with the recently published Norwegian Armed Forces Long Term Plan 1998.
Minister of Defence confirms reactivation of Norwegian Home Guard
The Minister of Defence has confirmed the reactivation of the Norwegian Home Guard with 10,000 personnel entering training with 40,000 personnel planned for the new branch of the Norwegian Armed Forces. Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen confirmed that the force is ready to respond within hours to acts of terrorism, bomb threats, and other emergencies. In wartime situations, the Norwegian Home Guard will typically be used to protect the local infrastructure and population whilst other branches of the military can be used for other purposes.
The government is spearheading plans for the Norwegian Home Guard to receive a multitude of newly acquired vehicles for the Home Guard to respond to any incidents and have the correct equipment to complete their duties.
