Exit Polls General Election 1995

The Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) has won the 1995 general election, becoming the largest party with 35 out of the 150 seats in parliament. This will allow the Christian Democratic Appeal to lead the efforts in forming a new government, which will most likely result in a center to center-right coalition with the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and Democrats '66 (D66) to gain a majority in both houses. A second, but unlikely posibility would be the formation of a grand coalition with the Labour Party (PvdA).

| CDA - 35 | PvdA - 32 | VVD - 29 | D66 - 17 | GL - 14 | SP - 14 | SPG - 9 |

Provincial Elections

The Provincial Elections of 1997 are upon us as millions of eligible voters flock to the polls in order to directly elect their preferred parties to the Provincial legislatures, who are responsible for electing Senators, therefore this election will also indirectly appoint the Senate. The opposition will be seeking to increase their influence in the Senate with the goal of putting the government into the minority in the Senate, which would force the coalition into seeking compromise on any draft legislation in order for Bills to pass the Senate.

The governing coalition will be seeking to maintain or increase their majority as a sign of the nation supporting their policies in the last two years. In the event that a coalition party suffers major losses, then their relationship with the rest of the coalition may become tense as they seek to improve their standing with their traditional voters. In the past Provincial Elections have caused the collapse of three governments. Political Scientists will keep a keen eye on the developments of this elections.
