STATUS OF FOREIGN MISSIONS IN PORTUGAL

THE GLOBAL ASSEMBLY

As per the Global Assembly's Resolution on International Diplomacy, ratified into Portuguese law on the 1st of January, the year 1997; Portugal maintains a thorough list of sovereign Diplomatic Missions currently housed within Portuguese territory. As such, Portugal would strive to keep these demands met in order to provide the most service to guest nations and to make sure that fair and proper conduct would be established, to promote a healthier and positive relationship between Portugal, and the International Community. As required by the Resolution, Portugal would make clear her policies on Foreign Mission Staff, including security personnel. A link or copy of the Global Assembly Resolution would be found here for further reading.

All nations willing to start a foreign mission into Portugal must meet the following:
  1. Has established at least one diplomatic exchange (e.g. A letter or call to either Government).
  2. Is currently in a Positive relationship with Portugal
  3. Has not made an international scandal in the past 6 months.

Portugal has three tiers on the status of foreign missions residing within her borders, in which this document will go into further detail. Attached to this document will also be the list of nations for each tier, for ease of access to all. All active Foreign Missions in Portugal are requested to be up to date with this new information, and Portugal would request their compliance. On the account of a disagreement or further inquiry, please contact the Minister of Foreign Affairs directly. Requests of classification change or termination must be made at least a week before the date of classification transfer.

TIER I - STANDARD FOREIGN MISSION

The Standard Foreign Mission applies to all nations with a Relation level of Neutral or lower. All nations within this classification would be given the privilege to have the minimum requirements of a Foreign Mission. Unless requested, all Standard Foreign Mission's areas would be, by default, chosen by the Government of Portugal. These areas would respect the current locations of active embassies. The staff numbers of a Standard Foreign Mission are the following:

------

[22] SECURITY PERSONNEL

[22] PERMITTED TO WIELD HANDGUNS (i.e. Pistols, Revolvers)
[14] PERMITTED TO WIELD LONG GUNS (e.g. Assault Rifles, Shotguns)
[3] PERMITTED TO WIELD SPECIALIST WEAPONS (e.g. Sniper rifles, Machineguns)

All Foreign Missions under this category are requested to follow this guideline, else we would be forced to terminate the mission. All missions under threat of termination will be given 48 hours to leave the country; After which, Portugal reserves the right to detain and extradite the personnel of the offending Foreign Mission back to their host nation, given that these persons will serve the suggested sentence. In the event of War, personnel will still be allowed to leave the country for a maximum allowed time of 48 hours; otherwise, they will be treated fairly as Prisoners of War.

TIER II - PROTECTED FOREIGN MISSION

The Protected Foreign Mission applies to all nations with a Relation level of Friendly or to nations that request this classification. All nations within this classification would be given the privilege to have the minimum requirements of a Foreign Mission. Unless requested, all Foreign Mission's areas would be, by default, chosen by the Government of Portugal. These areas would respect the current locations of active embassies.
