National People's Congress Elects President & State Council

Due to the resignation of the Jiang Zemin as both President & General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, party leadership recently convened to elect Zhou Tan as the new General Secretary of the CCP. Zhou Tan pledged to bring strengthen China as we near the end of the millennium. His agenda promotes the rebuilding of Chinese hard and soft power, the strengthening of international cooperation in the region, and the promotion relations with partners across the globe. Zhou Tan's first act as General Secretary has been to push for a rewriting of the constitution, his amendment seeks to move away from party influence on low level politics and places the military under the command of the Ministry of National Defence.

Promoting his amendment, General Secretary Zhou Tan seeks to improve the efficiency of government bureaucracy, combat corruption and promote political participation.

With the resignation of both the President and Vice President, the National People's Congress convened in order to address both the constitutional amendment and the election of a new head of state. After two weeks of deliberation, the National People's Congress has thrown its full support behind the constitutional amendments and had elected General Secretary Zhou Tan to the post of President. The post of Vice President will be taken on by Shi Kuang, a veteran of the National People's Congress Standing Committee.

With two experienced leaders now holding the highest offices in the land, China moves forwards on an new course of prosperity.
